Easy Christmas Art Projects for Kids
I like simple art projects that don’t require a lot of materials and are easy enough for kids to complete by themselves. We almost always have construction paper, glue, glitter and crayons around for arts and crafts. The following easy Christmas art projects for kids are open-ended. Thus, these holiday art projects give children a chance to show their creativity.
Christmas Silhouette
This is the hardest of the crafts and best suited for children over four (or any child with good cutting skills). Using a white crayon, have your child trace out some Christmas images onto black paper. Some ideas might be a Christmas tree, a child or family standing near the tree and presents. A mantle with stockings is another idea. Next, cut out the images and glue them on a green or red piece of construction paper.
Ornaments Galore
This is a fun way for kids to make a whole page of ornaments. First, give your kids a bunch of round color coding labels. Have children stick the coding labels on their paper and put hooks on top to turn the dots into ornaments. Give kids an assortment of crayons to decorate the ornaments. This one is easy enough that my almost two-year-old was able to participate.
Glitter Snow Scene
Using glue, glitter and construction paper, create a winter wonderland scene. I like to use gel glue because it has a fine tip. However, your child can also use a glue stick. Snowmen, snowflakes and Christmas trees are all good ideas. Kids can even write Merry Christmas with the glue. Immediately after drawing, take the pictures over a big box top and sprinkle glitter over the images. Make sure to shake off the excess. You can use one type of glitter, such as white iridescent glitter for a snowy effect. Or, use different types of glitter for a more colorful Christmas scene. For instance, you could make a Christmas tree and cover with green glitter. Then, make ornaments and garland and cover with a different color of glitter.
Cereal Christmas Trees
Give your child a cup full of cereal. O or round cereal works the best. Draw a triangle shaped tree on the paper for your child and allow them to fill in the picture with cereal. Show your child how to put a small dot of glue on each piece of cereal and then place it on the paper. You can also use colored cereal for a more vibrant picture. Your child can use sprinkles to make a star or other smaller details.
