Colorful Sun Catcher

This sun catcher is extremely easy to make, and it looks exceptionally lovely when hung in a bright sunny window. Although this sun catcher is easy to make, it takes some creativity and ingenuity. Grandparents and grandchildren love creating designs on these fantastic sun catchers. Grandchildren can make extras to give to their parents, teachers, and friends. Consider making these sun catchers with your grandchildren next time they come for a visit.

To make one colorful sun catcher you’ll need a sheet of colorful card stock or heavy paper, craft scissors, corrugated cardboard, a thumbtack, and clear thread or fishing line.

Simply cut out a shape of your choice from a piece of colorful heavy paper or cardstock. Consider tracing around an interesting object, or use a ready-made stencil. Next you’ll need to cut out the shape. Place the shape on a piece of corrugated cardboard, and make pinholes designs with a thumbtack. Make swirls, lines, and interesting patterns. Thread a long piece of clear thread or fishing line through one of the holes, and hang your colorful sun catcher in a sunny window. The light shining through the pinholes will dance, shine, and add brilliance to any room.

Bumble Bee Garden Stake

Garden stakes are very popular, and grandparents can make this fantastic garden stake craft project with grandchildren. This easy craft project is a great way to recycle empty mustard bottles, so save your mustard bottles, and when your grandchildren come for a visit you can create this fun project. Grandparents and grandchildren can enjoy making this giant garden bee, and craft projects such as these will become a fun family tradition when your grandchildren come to visit.

To make a bumble bee garden stake you’ll need an empty large round mustard bottle, black electrical tape, a sheet of white craft foam, a hot glue gun, large wiggly eyes, a nail, craft scissors, 16-gauge wire, wire cutters, and a small sheet of black craft foam.

Begin making this fun craft project for grandparents and grandchildren by removing the labels from a large round mustard bottle. Clean and dry the mustard bottle, and begin making the bumble bee by wrapping electrical tape around the neck of the bottle. The pointed top of the bottle will form the back of the bumble bee. Also, wrap electrical tape about an inch below the first piece, and wrap a third piece about an inch below that one. The bumble bee will have three evenly spaced black stripes.

The next step is to cut out a pair of bumble bee wings from a sheet of white craft foam. Also, cut out a circular shaped nose from a sheet of black craft foam. With a hot glue gun, glue the wiggly eyes to the bottom of the mustard bottle, glue the nose beneath the eyes, and glue the wings to the side of the bottle so they’re perched on top to look like a bee in flight.

The last step in creating the bumble bee is to cut two eight-inch lengths of 16-gauge wire. Twist the wire into two coiled antennas, and poke the antennas into the top of the bee’s head. Place a little hot glue around the base of each wire to help hold them in place.

All that’s left to do is poke a metal stake through the body of the bee. Poke holes through the top and bottom of the bee, and guide a metal stake through the holes. Place your bumble bee garden stake in a garden, flower bed, or large flower pot.

Consider making smaller bumble bee garden stakes out of smaller mustard bottles. Your grandchildren will love making these lovable garden stake bumble bees. The smaller stakes can be used to decorate flower pots and containers indoors.

Flower Doilies

Grandparents and grandchildren can have a good time making flowers out of paper doilies and pipe cleaners. These flower doilies are easy to make, and they are one of the best projects for grandparents and grandchildren to make together. After making a few flowers out of paper doilies you and your grandchildren will want to make an entire bouquet.

To make flowers out of doilies all you need are paper doilies in colors and styles of your choice, green pipe cleaners, green tissue paper, craft scissors, clear tacky glue, and a paper punch. If you want fancier flowers made from doilies, you can decorate them with fine glitter and clear glue.

Simply stack two paper doilies on top of each other, and gather them in the center. Twist the center, and wrap the end of a green pipe cleaner around the base of the bloom. Separate and arrange the petals to look like real flowers.

Cut out leaves from sheets of green tissue paper, and punch a hole in the ends of the leaves with a paper punch. Guide the pipe cleaner stem through the holes, and apply a little tacky glue to attach them. Allow the glue plenty of time to dry, and if you wish, you can further embellish the flowers with clear glue and fine glitter.

This craft project will be a fun favorite when your grandchildren come to visit. Grandparents and grandchildren can enjoy making flowers to give to friends and loved ones. These flowers are truly one of the most enjoyable craft projects for grandparents and grandchildren to make together.

Memories That Last Forever

I have fond memories of making craft projects with my grandmother. I was the oldest of 10 grandchildren, and making craft projects with my grandmother was the highlight of my visits to her home. My grandmother would take me shopping to buy craft supplies, and we would go back to her house and create fun and easy craft projects that I could take home and keep forever. Due to arthritis, my grandmother is no longer able to create beautiful craft projects, but I’ll always have memories of the craft projects she created with her grandchildren.
