Easy Ways to Freshen a Mattress
Begin by Vacuuming the Mattress
Before attempting to freshen a mattress, it is important to remove dust and accompanying mites. Use a handheld vacuum or an attachment to thoroughly cover every square inch including the sides. If it is a reversible mattress, flip it over and vacuum the other side as well. Starting with a clean surface is essential when trying to remove or neutralize odors. If necessary, clean it using a method that is recommended by the manufacturer. It must be dry before taking the next step.
Combine Baking Soda with Essential Oil for a Natural Freshener
The best way to freshen a mattress is with natural baking soda. If you want to add a favorite scent, shop for essential oil. It comes in countless scents. Consider lavender, baby powder, vanilla or another soothing scent that promotes relaxation. To create a natural mixture to freshen the material, pour one cup of baking soda in a container with a shaker top. Add about 12 drops of essential oil in a scent of your choice. Shake the container to combine the baking soda with the oil. Evenly sprinkle it over the surface, and allow it to remain untouched for at least three hours before vacuuming it away.
Vacuum it Often
Keep a mixture of baking soda and essential oil on hand. Vacuum the mattress at least once a month, and freshen it as needed. Also, air it out in between bedding changes. If possible, open the bedroom windows while it is airing out. It will continually smell fresh and clean, and it will seem far more comfortable and more inviting than ever.
