The Eiffel Tower, Paris is one of the most recognised landmarks in the world. It was built for the French Revolution centenary, the Universal Exhibition and first opened on March 31 1889. The Eiffel Tower was designed by Gustave Eiffel. Construction started in 1887 and took just over two years to complete. The finished article stands 342 metres high, weights 7000 tons and is made of iron and 2.5 million rivets. It was the tallest building in the world until 1930 when the Empire State Building beat it. Since it has opened over 210 million people have visited, making it one of the most popular attractions in the world.

Initially the Eiffel Tower was only supposed to stand for twenty years and then be torn down, but once it was discovered to be a good place for communication devices it was allowed to stay.

The Eiffel Tower has three levels. There are two restaurants, though expensive you may be willing to treat yourself to eat in this unique spot overlooking the city. They are on the ground level, the first floor and the second floor so you won’t miss the opportunity to pick up a reminder of your visit.

One of the best ways to reach the Eiffel Tower is to hop on the metro and get off at Trocadero Station and walk the rest of the way past beautiful fountains and numerous street performers. Ideally you will want to visit at nighttime when the entire Eiffel Tower is illuminated with sparkling white light. Sunset is also another great time to look out over the city from the top floor.

From August 30th-June 18th the elevator operates from 9:30am to 11:00pm.
Stairs are open from 9:30am to 6:30pm.

There are a few exceptions during this time
April 30th, and May 1,2,7,8,20,21,22,29,30
On these days both the elevator and stairs are open from 9:30am to midnight

June 19 – August 29 both the elevator and stairs are open from 9:00am – midnight

Entrance fees are as follows

If you go by Elevator

Adults and children 12 and up
4 Euros for the first floor
7.30 Euros for the second floor
10.40 Euros for the top

If you use the stairs

3.50 Euros for the first and second floor

Children age 3-11

2.20 Euros for the first floor

4.00 Euros for the second floor

5.70 Euros for the top.

Children under 3 are free.
