Eliminate Toxic Chemicals in Your Home
There are hundreds of chemicals in your household and many of these chemicals can be bad for your health and our environment. Look at the cleaners you have in your home, you will find that most of these cleaners do not expose the complete list of ingredients. Some popular name brands only list one or two ingredients on these cleaners and will put 98% as “Other ingredients.” The fact that some of these brands don’t disclose the full list of ingredients to its consumers is a red flag. You as a consumer, should be aware of these cleaners that you bring to your home, not only are you unaware as to what the 98% other ingredients are, but you are breathing in these chemicals on a daily basis.
Household cleaners are not the only products filling your home with toxic chemicals so are air fresheners. Everyone wants their home to smell fresh like a garden, a meadow or some tropical breezy smell. The fact is that all these air fresheners claim to spray your home like real flowers or some fruity smell but these spray cans don’t smell at all like the real thing.
Here are five helpful tips to reduce toxic chemicals in your home:
1. Buy eco-friendly household products, you will find that eco-friendly products cost about the same as regular products and do indeed work well for your home. Popular eco-friendly products that contain minimal or no harsh chemicals are: Seventh Generation, Ecos, Green Works, and Method. Beware of green washing! There are many products out there that claim to be a green product but are not. The best way to make sure to not fall for a green washing scam is to look to at the ingredients. If they do not disclose the ingredients of the products or only two ingredients and list the remainder as 98% “other ingredients” then that product more than likely is not a green product.
2. Baking soda and vinegar are green cleaners! Baking soda and vinegar serve for many purposes and they also happen to be good natural cleaners. The Care2 website has great recipes for creating your own eco-friendly household cleaners with baking soda, vinegar, borax and other simple basic ingredients.
3. Let your home breathe in some good air. Open a window or two at least 2 or 3 times a week.
4. If you can’t live without air fresheners in your home, try buying eco-friendly air fresheners, or look for air fresheners that contain the least amount of chemicals in them. If you like the smell of cinnamon, buy some cinnamon sticks and leave a few in every other room.
5. Have some plants in your home, not only do they smell nice but plants are also good for eliminating toxins. Plants are known to absorb toxins and there’s nothing better than having the real smell of plants in your home.
There’s so many chemicals out there that we have no control of but you can control the chemicals that you bring into your home. It’s best to support companies who produce products that consider its customers and the environment than to purchase products from companies that don’t care about either one.
