Emmy Awards Nominations Announced and the Usual Suspects Are Snubbed Again
While shows like Friends, Everybody Loves Raymond, Will & Grace and Sex in the City have all won Best Comedy in the past, the funniest show in the history of television, The Simpsons, has ever even gotten a nomination for Best Comedy or Best Writing, this despite the universal praise that The Simpsons has been the best comedy writing on television for almost two decades now.
Once again Lauren Graham was overlooked for her role as Lorelai Gilmore on Gilmore Girls. Graham has clearly provided the most complex and fascinating female character on television for the last half-decade. It’s quite possible, in fact, that Graham’s Lorelai Gilmore is the funniest dramatic portrayal in episodic series television history. The second best written show of the last half-decade has never won in that category either. Stunning.
Although Scrubs finally managed a nomination for Best Comedy, somehow neither Zach Braff nor Ted McGinley were nominated. This despite Charlie Sheen and Sean Hayes BOTH getting nominations? What’s up with that?
And finally the biggest shock of all. There is STILL a category for Best Reality Show. Isn’t that an oxymoron?
