Enjoy Your Engagement: Getting Ready for Your Wedding Before Your Man Proposes
By the time my dashing man proposed to me, we set the date. Months before we got engaged, we went to Michaels and picked up a bunch of wedding related items, like our guest sign in book. I went out to the dollar store and bought some candle centerpieces and several ribbons for decorations.
Also, as our engagement unknowingly at the time got closer, we had the venue (our home) decided upon, the guest list written out, and the invitations prepared and ready to be sent. Within a couple weeks before, we even had the silverware, plates, and cups purchased.
Coincidentally, we found our wedding officiant just the night before our engagement. Now that we’ve got all that out of the way, we just need to get our marriage license, get our bands, order a two or three tiered wedding cake, and get the food all set.
Honestly, I was getting so stressed out planning everything. I thought that since we were having a small wedding at our home, it wouldn’t be so much work. I even recall thinking that most couples are probably just lazy and a few simple tasks are too much for them to handle.
I guess I was wrong all along though! I never realized just how much work really goes into planning a wedding. It is actually really quite astounding.
By the time we got engaged, we could focus more on the thrill of our engagement and not so much on the chaos that comes with planning a wedding. And let me tell you, it has been a huge relief for us! I feel like if we had gotten engaged first like most people do, the distress could have easily outweighed the joy and excitement of having just been proposed to.
That’s why I’m so glad that we did everything backwards and I would definitely encourage other couples to consider doing it this way as well. Now my fiance and I can relax and enjoy our engagement the way it is meant to be enjoyed.
