Even More Uses for Plastic Grocery Bags

In previous articles I wrote about uses for grocery bags, which was inspired by a ban of these bags in China, I gave many useful ways you can recycle your grocery store bags. The list included mailing supplies, freezer sorting, shoe protection, pillow stuffing, and knitting. Here are 10 more uses for plastic grocery bags.

Space fillers: I use plastic bags to fill space in vases, usually surrounded by rocks when the arrangement calls for a less deep vase. I also use them in display bowls such as a bowl full of Christmas balls. I put bags in the center to make the bowl appear more full.

Table protection: Cut grocery store bags open to and tape them to your work surface to prevent damage during arts and crafts time and other messy jobs.

Trick or treating: Use department store shopping bags for Halloween bags. If you want to make it more Halloween-ish, turn it inside out and draw a design on it with a black marker.

Umbrella holder/ purse protector: It is great to have an umbrella in your purse for those unexpected rains, but what do you do with them after you use them. If you also have a plastic bag in your purse, you can put the umbrella inside it to ensure the items in your purse do not get wet. (When you get home, you will want to take it out and let the umbrella dry.

Vomit bags: If you have a child with a quick vomit reflex, you will and to keep a few plastic bags within easy reach and teach them how to use it.

Waste paper baskets: I never ever purchase waste paper baskets for my small garbage cans. Why would I when the grocery store provides them free of charge.

Wrapping presents: While handing a person a gift in the bag you got from the store is considered tacky, turning it inside out, wrapping it carefully and adding pretty bows can be quite nice. If you often get pretty or colored bags from places you shop, put them in your gift-wrapping drawer to use later.

Oatmeal container holders for plastic bags: Save you old oatmeal containers, cut a hole in the top, and use them to stuff in your plastic grocery bags. You will be surprised how many bags you can fit in them and you can keep a container of them where ever you need them most.

Use panty hose to hold plastic bags: Don’t throw away those old panty hose. Instead cut of a let and tie it to a hook on the inside of your pantry door. Put plastic bags in from the top, and pull them out of a little hole that you will have to cut into the bottom.
