Fabulous Birthday Party Ideas for Little Girls

Birthday party planning for little girls can be so much fun! I have planned several successful and entertaining parties for my little girl and they have turned out to be fabulous and lots of fun.

The first step to planning your party is to pick a theme (usually your child has a favorite character or toy that they want to use as the theme). Next decide on how many people you are going to invite and what kinds of games would be appropriate. Purchase some party favors, food and other supplies for the party. The last step is to make or order the cake and do the final preparations for games and activities. Now you are ready for the big event!

Here are some suggestions that I have done that have worked well in the past (they are separated by age category, but most of them will work for almost any age with a few alterations)

3-Year Old Birthday Party

It was a “Mommy and Me” themed party. I had each child bring their favorite baby doll to the party and their mom (since they were young I figured it would be wise to do this). The decorations were pink and purple crepe paper and balloons with baby pictures hung on the walls. The cups, plates and napkins matched the color scheme. When the children arrived we had them sit in a circle with their baby dolls and their moms behind them. We went around the room and had each child introduce their baby doll and share why she was their favorite doll. When everyone arrived we played our first game. It was a baby treasure hunt. I had clues with pictures. We split up into two groups and searched around the house for the clues. The pictures were of diapers, baby lotion, changing table, crib etc. Each item they found had a new clue on it and they had to search for the next item. At the end of the hunt they found a big cardboard treasure box that contained baby doll items for their dolls, there were bottles, small blankets (from the dollar store), rattles and cloth diapers. Next, we had a diapering contest, which was interesting since they were 3-year olds. The cake was decorated with baby doll items too. We had a light lunch consisting of finger sandwiches and fruit, and then we opened presents and had cake. It was a fun party that was enjoyed by all.

4-Year Old Birthday Party

This party was a “Dress-up” party theme. All the little girls came dressed up with hats, boas, frilly shoes and purses. We had a fashion show at the beginning so everyone could show off his or her outfits. I took pictures of each girl in her fancy attire with a Polaroid camera. I purchased flat wooden picture frames from the dollar store and cut out colorful mates to fit the frames. Each child decorated their own picture frame with stickers (Disney Princess, Barbie and Bratz) and other embellishments such as glitter and ribbon. The stickers were decoupaged on the frames first and we let them dry, then they were finished with the spray glitter and ribbons. When the decorated frames were completely dry we placed the matted picture in the frame and each girl had a framed memory to take home. One of the games we played was the telephone game; everyone sat in a circle and they had to whisper something to their neighbor and the information made it around the circle, by the time it go to the last person the information was a little distorted but it was funny to how the gossip ended up. We had a tea party with finger foods like veggies and dip, heart shaped sandwiches and crackers and cheese. Then after they ate we opened presents and had cake. The cake was shaped like a purse and decorated with candy jewels. Everyone got a purse and plastic cell phone to take home along with their framed picture.

5-Year Old Birthday Party

The party was a “Lizzie McGuire” spectacular. My daughter loves Lizzie so we had a fun party with Hilary Duff music and Lizzie McGuire dÃ?©cor. This was a craft party. I purchased craft items from Oriental Trading Co. First we made diary’s (something every little girl should have) they had a foam cover and the girls got to glue on their own decorations. The front of the cover said “MY DIARY” and had a ribbon attached to the binding of the book that could act as bookmark. The next activity was a purse. This was also made out of a foam material and we had flowers and jewels to decorate the front of this very fancy accessory. The last project was a beaded bracelet. Each girl had her own bracelet kit to put together. The girls placed the beads on the elastic string making their own unique pattern and then we tied them together. The items that they made along with some Lizzie stickers and candy necklaces went home in their self-designed purse. We had pizza for lunch since that is probably what Lizzie would eat (according to my daughter) and ate cupcakes with plastic ring decorations. At the end of the party we opened presents and said our goodbyes.

Birthday party planning doesn’t have to be complicated. I think parties for little girls are one of the most enjoyable to plan. There are several party supply stores and tons of online supply stores available for purchasing party favors and other items. Most places like Birthday Express and Oriental Trading Co have theme ideas and party packs ready to purchase. You can come up with an easy, inexpensive party plan with a little preparation and some imagination. Think of common party games and put your own twist into them (like my baby item picture treasure hunt). My party ideas can help spark some ideas of your own. Make the birthday party planning fun and include your child in the planning activities.
