Fabulous Ways to Use Mirror Tiles

Mirror tiles are a fabulous way to decorate various rooms in your home, they’re inexpensive, and they’re so easy to use that a child could almost do it. The tiles are usually 12″x12″ and come in a box of 12. Twelve is a good number to work with because you can do designs of three across and four down, two across and six down, four across and three down, and other combinations.

You can purchase glass tile cutters that can help you to place smaller pieces, but most of these projects are done without the use of such a tool. Some people don’t work well with the cutting tool and others simply don’t like the look of the cut tiles.

A quick way to set up a full length mirror is to place two mirrors across and six down, on the back of a bedroom or bathroom door. The tiles simply peel-and-stick to a clean wall or door. They’re available in designs like regular mirrors, etched styles, or ones marbled with gold or silver streaks.

Many honeymoon suites have mirrors on the ceiling, over the bed. It’ll take more than a box to accomplish this, but you can make it as large or small an arrangement as you wish. Measure the bed and purchase the appropriate number of tiles. Peel and stick to make the arrangement you want.

You can mix and match the mirror pieces, placing plain ones in the center then bordering the perimeter with ones of gold or silver marbling. Or, take turns placing one gold marbled one, then one silver marbled one for a very unique look.

Small rooms can look much large if you do a wall in mirror tiles. They needn’t cover the entire wall, if you don’t want to cut them. You can also place the tiles around the perimeter of the room, at the top, below the ceiling. This way, the mirrors catch the light and brighten the room, without sending light rays glaring into your eyes.

The mirror tiles are perfect for the bathroom. Instead of a small medicine cabinet with an attached mirror, do a large section above the sink, and you’ll be able to share the mirror with someone else or just enjoy how large and bright your bathroom suddenly is.

Position the mirrors on a board and attach the board to a wall, above a dresser to use for a vanity table or to just check your hair before running out the door. Use decorative molding around the edges of the board to make it look a little classier.

Leave the backing on the mirror tiles and arrange six tiles into a cube. Place one tile, mirror side down, onto a table. Using the cement, stand one tile up and glue to the bottom one. Stand the next tile up, on the next side of the bottom mirror, but this time glue across the bottom and where the two mirrors meet on the side. Continue this process until you have five mirrors with one as the bottom. Now glue one more on top, mirror side facing up. These make great plant stands for most any room. You can also use the cube in a bathroom and simply stack towels or toiletries on it.

Another craft you can do with the tiles is to assemble two or three for a cute stand. Place one tile, mirror side up, on a table. Use contact cement to glue a dowel to each corner of the tile. Now glue another tile on top of the dowels. Stop there, with two tiles, to make a short spice rack, or add more tiles and dowels to make a taller stand that can hold collectibles.

There are lots of other ways to use the tiles. Purchase a pack or two at a home improvement store and see what you can create.
