Fact Versus Myths About that Pesky Cellulite
Myth: Only older people get cellulite.
Fact: Not true. Anyone can get cellulite at any age. Cellulite is fat deposits under the skin, so you don’t have to be over 40 to get it. It is true that you often notice cellulite more as you age, but this is because your skin gets thinner as you age. So, you can have cellulite, whether you are 18, 28 or 48. It’s a part of life.
Myth: Carbonated Beverages cause cellulite.
Fact: This is a very common myth surrounding cellulite. Some people believe that if you drink these beverages, it will cause cellulite to appear. The myth is focused on the belief that the sodium in carbonated beverages and soda will cause fat cells to swell. The truth, however, is that cellulite is not composed of swollen fat cells, but instead these are close to the skin but not swollen cells. They are actually cells that are trapped in the connective tissue near the skin and become deformed as a result of the entrapment. So, although water is likely a better way to hydrate yourself, drinking carbonated beverages will not give you cellulite.
Myth: Only people that are overweight get cellulite.
Fact: Not true. Some people mistakenly believe that only people that are overweight get cellulite. This is one that has been disproved many times. Even if you are thin, you can still get cellulite. Thin people still have some amount of fat and it does collect under the skin. Overweight people may have more fat deposits, but cellulite is certainly not a problem that only they experience.
Myth: You should always cover up your cellulite.
Fact: You may not want to admit that you have cellulite or you may want to always wear jeans to cover what you do have. There are women who refuse to wear shorts in the hottest temperatures because they have cellulite on their legs. However, cellulite is not the end of the world. The truth is that society is more accepting of cellulite than you might think. In fact, people rarely notice other people’s cellulite. You notice your own cellulite more than other people So, go ahead and be comfortable. Life is too short to worry about what other people think!
Myth: You only have cellulite on your rear and thighs.
Fact: Again, this is not true. You can develop cellulite anywhere on your body. However, it is true that the most common places for cellulite to appear are the thighs and buttocks. In fact, one myth is that these are the only places on the body that cellulite can appear. Those who have cellulite in other locations know this myth is not true. It can show up almost anywhere. It is also frequently seen on arms and stomachs, as well.
Myth: You can get rid of cellulite if you exercise.
Fact: Not true. You may work out at the gym for hours each week to get rid of unsightly cellulite. However, while it is true that exercise will help you prevent cellulite, it is a myth that exercise will make it disappear. In fact, many people still have cellulite, even though they work out daily. Cellulite can be hard to get rid of because it is trapped in the area of connective tissue by your skin. Therefore, even if you lose weight or build muscle, that area may or may not be affected by your work.
Myth: Creams will make your cellulite disappear.
Fact: Also not true. There are many products on the market today that claim to you’re your cellulite disappear. There may be some creams that will reduce the appearance of your cellulite, but it will never make it completely go away. You cannot count on a cellulite cream to take away your problem.
