Fall TV Previews

The upcoming Fall TV lineup looks promising so far, but which shows will be hitsâÂ?¦and which will be misses? The following is a preview of what’s coming soon to a television near you.

There’s a lot to look forward to as the autumn months approach, when it comes to TV anyway. One suspense-filled show that’s already generating plenty of buzz is “Vanished”, which made its debut on Mondays following “Prison Break.” The basic plot is that the season follows a missing-person case and this missing person just so happens to be a senator’s wife. Plenty of conspiracy theories took place during the first episodes and it looks like it will shape up to be a nail-biter worth watching.

Keeping with the suspense genre, “Justice”, starring Dawson Creek’s Kerr Smith, is looking to become the newest sharp legal drama. In each episode, the high-powered defense lawyers utilize some pretty slick gadgets and computer technology to re-enact what really happened during the crime. Each episode will end with a flashback to show the viewers what really happened, so they know whether or not the client was guilty. In a recent poll conducted by AOL, 71% of those who voted said they plan to watch this groundbreaking show.

Comic book fans, you may now have a superhero TV show to devote your Monday nights to as NBC premieres “Heroes” on September 25th. The show centers around everyday people from different corners of the world who discover they all have unique super-powers. “Heroes” will focus on how these ordinary individuals cope with these abilities.

NBC will be airing some new original comedies this fall such as “30 Rock,” a scripted series about the backstage life of a non-scripted classic sketch comedy show, much like “Saturday Night Live.” “30 Rock” will star past SNL alums Tina Fey, Rachel Dratch, Tracy Morgan among others.

Apparently when “Everybody Loves Raymond” ended last year, the TV public still wanted to see co-star Brad Garrett. Fox was quick to offer him a TV show about a pair of newlyweds and a couple of not-so-newlyweds. The newly married Woodcocks, played by American Pie’s Eddie Kaye Thomas and newcomer Kat Foster are a lovey-dovey couple who have yet to experience the trials and tribulations of marriage. On the other hand, Brad Garrett and Joely Fisher play the Stamms, a jaded couple who have been married for almost 20 years. Eddie Stamm is more than happy to lend some helpful marital advice to Eddie Kaye’s character, which makes for some interesting predicaments. This show seems to have the makings of a future hit series.

The movie “Friday Night Lights,” starring Billy Bob Thornton and Lucas Black, was such a surprise hit on DVD that NBC will be making a TV show about the Texas high school football team. It is yet to be determined whether or not non-football fans will be able to follow the sports-based storyline and enjoy the show. Some critics are speculating that the shows writers will be working in some off-the-field drama to attract a broader audience.

Another show creating buzz among the public is “Jericho,” about a small Kansas town coping with confusion after seeing a mushroom-cloud on the horizon. The town is kept in the dark and is unsure of whether it is an accident, terrorist activity or an all-out war.

Other new shows that may be worth your time this fall are “Kidnapped,” “Runaway” and “Standoff.” All of which are suspense-filled action-dramas that will be sure to keep you on the edge of your seat. If you’re more into hip comedies, consider tuning in to watch “20 Good Years” on NBC, “The Game” on the new CW Network or “Ugly Betty,” airing on ABC.

Hopefully out of all of those TV shows, a few have sparked your interest. Now you’re ready to pop some popcorn, get out your favorite quilt and curl up with some nice television entertainment. Enjoy the show!
