Museums
The Arkansas Air Museum located at Drake Field is open year round. The history of aviation in Arkansas has a colorful history which is recorded in the museum displays. The aircraft on display in this museum is unusual because most of them can still fly. They are not replica’s or unusable planes from days gone by, they are well-maintained in flying condition.
As you walk through this all-wood white hangar you will pass world-famous racing planes from the 20’s and 30’s, Vietnam-era helicopters and a Navy carrier fighter.
The Arkansas Air Museum was one of the many headquarters for aviator training posts during WWII and the hangar itself is one of the few remaining 1940’s era hangars.
Ozark Military Museum
This museum houses a vast display of military vehicles and artifacts from the Civil War through WWII, including tent stoves, gas masks, German daggers, helmets and many other items conducive to that time.
It also has a display of a WWII ambulance, cargo trucks, armored cars, two flying aircraft one of which was known as the Canadian Queen and served in the Royal Canadian Air Force.
The Ozark Military Museum is a must see for all aviation enthusiasts with it’s displays of yesteryear.
Arts and Entertainment
Walton Arts Center
The Walton Arts Center offers year round activities with symphony, pop concerts, theatre productions, art exhibits and dance. They offer activities for children, lessons and classes and group accommodations. There is something for the whole family to enjoy.
North Arkansas Symphony
For more than 30 years the North Arkansas Symphony has entertained audiences in Northwest Arkansas. The season runs from September through May with a 70 piece orchestra you are sure to be astounded.
Civil War History
This region of Arkansas saw many battles during the Civil War. Each year the historic Battle of Fayetteville is reenacted in full dress attire from the time of the Civil War. There are also several battlefields that you can visit and museums to learn of the rich history of this area during the Civil War.
Prairie Grove Battlefield State Park
Twenty thousand Confederate and Union Soldiers fought a major battle in Prairie Grove for military control of Northwest Arkansas. This 130-acre park is located 13 miles west of Fayetteville. There is a walking trail or a driving tour to enjoy your visit with.
Pea Ridge National Military Park
Pea Ridge is located 30 miles north of Fayetteville and is site to one of the largest Civil War battles fought west of the Mississippi. This battle marked the end of a campaign to secure upper reaches of Missouri and kept the state of Missouri under federal control.
You can tour the Visitor Center where you can watch videos, see the museum or browse the gift shop. Outside you can take a self-guided auto tour, walk the hiking trail or ride the horse trail if you have horses.
Sports Fun
With Fayetteville being home to the Arkansas Razorbacks you can be sure to find many facilities related to sports from museums to sports bar and grills.
The Jerry Jones-Jim Lindsey Hall of Champions is a two-story atrium located inside the Broyles Athletic Center on the U of A campus which displays video screens of the triumphant history of Razorback football history.
The Tommy Boyer Hall of Champions is a sports museum located inside Bud Walton arena and highlights a proud tradition of area sports including: baseball, basketball, and track and field.
And of course there is Razorback Sports information everywhere.
Outdoor Fun
There are outdoor fun spots for the whole family, spots for golfers, as well as parks for fishing, swimming and tennis.
Walker Park offers tennis courts, baseball and soccer fields, playground equipment and a picnic area.
Lake Weddington offers picnic areas, hiking, fishing, cabins, boating and swimming at it’s scenic forest lake.
The Lokomotion Family Fun Park is an attraction that your kids are sure to love. This park offers miniature golf, laser tag, bumper cars, arcade games and a go-kart track. It is sure to be a fun filled day for the entire family.
