Fantasy – Adult Revue at the Luxor Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas

Fantasy, playing in the Atrium Showroom at the Luxor Hotel and Casino, is a sexy, exhilarating, seductive adult revue with cutting edge choreography. Well, at least that’s what the flier says.

“Fantasy” is the revived version of “Midnight Fantasy” and as we all know from Mary Shelly’s “Frankenstein”, things don’t always work out the way you want when you bring them back from the dead.

The production value is very low. The costumes look “off the rack” and the set designs leave much to be desired. I actually kept thinking that when the curtains re-opened for every new scene there would be a different set. Nope, the same metal stairs and metallic strips for curtains. Sometimes there would be a bed or a desk but largely just the stairs. It almost gives you the impression that the stairs were always there and they were just working around them.

The format of the show is what one would expect at a strip club. Top forties music with some oldies and blues mixed in, seductive, skintight outfits and, of course, sexy topless dancers. Don’t get me wrong, I have no problem with any of this but so far I’m not at $45 and up for a ticket. At this point you only have me at a $10 dollar cover charge, a two-drink minimum. There is absolutely nothing different or original about the show.

The singer of the show, Stephanie Jordan, has a great rapport with the audience and does manage to make you feel a like part of the show. She fits in well with the rest of the cast. Her singing, on the other hand, is second rate at best and she often sounded like she could benefit from a drink of water.

The eight dancers of the show (led by Jennifer Ross) are all highly rated Las
Vegas dancers. Each had their own distinct style and technique, which probably is why they never really looked “together” during the group numbers. They all had great energy and were very “into” the show but they just didn’t sync. To be honest though, I really doubt that anybody noticed or cared much. They were, in fact, the only reason to watch the show at all.

Comedian/dancer Sean Cooper brought some laughs to the show but seemed largely out of place. He was like a leftover from another show (probably a better one). I find it hard to believe that they could not find a way to work him into the action. The theme of the show, after all, is fantasy. Here’s one guy with eight beautiful dancers and they have him doing impressions of Michael Jackson and Tina Turner.

The audience seemed to be mostly enjoying the show. The applause was light, however, and group response to shout-outs was weak. I did not get the overall impression that people hated the show (I didn’t hate the show) but people should not leave a sexy topless revue talking about how funny the comedian was.

For a professional Las Vegas show I would have to give it a C-minus. All in all the show was like taking a handful of diamonds and throwing them in the toilet. They’re still beautiful and nice to look at but I wouldn’t pay 45$ to see it.
