Fireplace Warning Labels

Most fireplaces don’t come with warning labels because they are built into the home. Plus, don’t some warning labels make you wonder why they had to be written in the first place? Do not drink poison. Don’t feed the wild animals. I could just imagine what some warning labels would read if they were on fireplaces.

Do Not Stick Your Head in the Fireplace

I believe some people have tried this in the past. They might have wanted to see why the room was getting dark and cloudy. So, they checked the vent. But, do not, and I repeat, do not stick your head in the fireplace.

The main reason would be that you could get burned. I hope that you are understanding my sense of humor at this point. I can’t imagine another reason being better than getting burned.

Do Not Throw Gas on the Fire

It’s really sad that this has been attempted before. It’s never a good idea to throw any kind of catalyst on the fire, let alone gas. Gas has a tendency to light fast, often explode. Now, I know that this sounds very elementary. But, so do some of the warning labels I’ve read.

Do not stick your hand in the garbage disposal while it’s running. Do not walk across tracks while train is coming. I thought those were pretty common sense. They made perfectly good sense to me. But, I guess some people need to be told these things before they get a wild idea to give it a try. So, I’ll add my own common sense warning label to the fireplace. Do not throw gas on the fire!

Do Not Sit Electrical Appliances Near the Fire

It’s a phenomenon that things begin to melt when they are placed near a fire. That’s kind of one of the things that fire does. Other than totally destroying everything in its path, one of its pastimes is melting things.

This does not just apply to electrical appliances. This is actually a warning about anything that could melt. Pictures are great on the mantel, not near the fire. Dry plants are also welcome on the mantel. But, they have a tendency to burn to crisps when placed near the fire. So, stop doing that!

My semi-humorous attempt to bring light on the subject hopefully was successful. But, it was also somewhat serious. If you read the newspaper and find stories about fireplace hazards, houses burning down, people overtaken with fumes, take those stores as a warning for everyone. Those are things not to do!
