Five Easy Ways to Get Your Home Smelling Great

If you smoke in your home, have animals, or even have children who aren’t as tidy as you are, you probably know that it’s not easy to keep your home smelling as fresh as you’d like it to be. We all know that those air fresheners don’t keep the smell going as long as it says it will on the can and leaving the windows open is too much of a hassle on those windy days. Well, thanks to yours truly, you’re in luck. I’ve come up with some fast, cheap, and simple ways to keep your home smelling great, despite who you have living with you.

1. Fabric Softener
If you have a standard fan or table fan in your home, turn it on low, take a couple of fabric softener sheets, and place them on the back of your fan. The fan will blow the fragrance of the fabric softener throughout your home and it starts working in an instant. It usually lasts for about 5-12 hours, depending on the brand you’re using. I like “Bounce”.

Also, you can hide fabric softener in different, unnoticeable places like under your rugs, under your trash bags in your trash can, stuffed in fake flower vases, etc. The possibilities are endless.

2. Candles
It doesn’t matter what kind of candle it is, as long as it has a scent. If you place 4-5 candles around your home, and keep them lit all day (with supervision) they will keep your house smelling amazing. You can buy candles for one dollar a piece at your local dollar store in great scents like vanilla, cinnamon, apple pie, and much more. One of my favorite scents is “Clean Linen” by Glade. I believe these candles run about two to three dollars, but it’s definitely worth the price.

3. Febreeze
So, it’s similar to an air freshener but it’s not one. It’s basically a fabric refresher. Spray it on all of your couches, pillows, curtains, and everything else that you can think of. The smell lingers, believe me. And it’s especially refreshing to see one of your guests sit on the couch and then take a whiff of the fresh air.

4. Soap Powder
If you use soap powder for your laundry, here’s a tip. Sprinkle the powder on your carpet, let it sit for about 10-15 minutes and then vaccum it up. It works just like the carpet powders, but the smell is more potent and seems to last longer. You can also sprinkle it in hard to see places like under the cushions on your sofa and under rugs.

5. Wipe Down Your Countertops & Tables
If you watch TV often, you’ve probably seen those Orange Clean commercials. It’s the cool little bottles of cleaner that you use to wipe down your counters, tables, and even mop your floors with. This stuff really works and also has your home smelling great. If you’re not into the brand, try out something different. At your local dollar store, you can find lots of great smelling all purpose cleaner to wipe down your wood tables, tile floors, and whatever else you can think of.

I’ve been through the whole deal about a less than clean smelling house. I grew up with a number of animals, including dogs, cats, and hamsters. My home was also a home where others smoked inside. These tips really do work and should have your home smelling great in no time.
