Five Fantastic Ways to Hide a Phone Jack on a Kitchen Wall
Low-cost cell phone plans with unlimited minutes have made it possible for people to eliminate their landlines and more importantly, the accompanying bill. Many are left with a hideous phone jack on a kitchen wall. Older plug-ins are particularly ugly, but they do not have to be removed since doing so might expose original paint or wallpaper. Consider five fantastic ways to hide it instead. These creative options will either alter the appearance in a decorative way or completely cover the plate.
Hang a Calendar
If you use a wall calendar in your kitchen, consider relocating it to hide the phone jack. Simply hang it over the plug-in to cover it up. If you use a wooden perpetual calendar, it can also be hung over the plate, but a simple addition will be required. Add a small shim, a piece of craft foam or something else of the correct depth to bring it out from the wall.
Hide it with a Decorative Vintage Phone
If your kitchen has old-fashioned charm, compliment the decor with a vintage phone. You can find functional modern phones that look old-time wooden ringer varieties. Even if it is a functioning telephone, you do not have to plug it in. Use it to hide the phone jack on the kitchen wall while adding to the style and the charm of the room.
Cover it with a Backless Wall-Mounted Cabinet
Wall-mounted cabinets come in all sizes from small decorative varieties with room for a few little knickknacks to larger units. If the phone jack is in the right location, consider adding a backless cabinet for storing spices. It will hide the ugly phone jack while serving a useful purpose.
Hang a Metal Wall Sculpture
A metal wall sculpture can be used to effectively hide an ugly plastic phone jack that is no longer needed. Unlike other types of wall art, a metal wall sculpture can be bent and shaped in different ways. If the plate still shows from the side, simply bend the artwork around it.
Create a Whimsical Hook for Hanging Keys
When an ugly plastic phone jack cannot be removed, turn it into a quirky work of art. Coat it with paint that is formulated for coating plastic, and add a plug-in to create a makeshift hook that will look like a nose. Attach two plastic craft eyes above it and a craft foam mouth below. If desired, apply craft hair around the top of the phone jack. Delve into your creative side, and add what you prefer. Use the plastic nose to hold a set of keys. The whimsical decor will hide the original plate in a creative and practical way.
