Five Reasons Why Installing Your Own Siding is the Right Choice

Doing your own DIY home improvement work is a great way to get the most savings out of your installation project. Whether that includes siding or other tougher-than-you-think home improvement projects is a choice that’s really up to you. Ask yourself these important questions before you attempt your own siding job and see if installing your own siding is the right choice for you.

1. Savings- The number one choice for doing any home improvement project is the savings. Are you going to get the most savings out of your project or is the time involved in labor going to make it cheaper to hire a professional siding contractor? Get a few bids from siding contractors before you begin and ask for a cost breakdown list of materials and labor costs used on your project. If you can’t compete with what they have to offer, then siding your own home is not for you.

2. Time- One of the biggest mistakes homeowners make when deciding to do their own siding job is time management practices. Not all homeowners can take a week off of work to get the job done efficiently. If you plan on nickel and diming your time schedule to allotted hours and weekends from a busy work schedule, you may find hiring a professional siding installer is in your best interests.

3. Tools- It takes a few tools to get any home improvement job done, let alone one that requires as many as tools as a siding job. If you don’t have the extension ladders, scaffolds or step ladders to safely reach the high siding areas of your home, it will cost you way more money to rent or buy ladders than it would if you hired a siding contractor in the first place.

4. Safety- Experience is the key to any high flying act like siding installation. If you plan on having to climb a ladder more than ten feet off of the ground, then you’ll need the right training and safety equipment to navigate successfully around the perimeter of your home.

5. Materials- Getting a good deal on materials can be the make or break factor of any home improvement job. Material prices can vary between dealers and some vinyl or aluminum siding contractors can get better deals on materials than a homeowner. Getting the better deal on materials can help you to decide whether or not installing your own siding is the right choice for you.
