Five Ways to Make Your Home Safe

Making your home safe for you and your family to live in is very important. Though some of the things to make your home safe may be common sense stuff, some people actually overlook things or don’t think twice about certain things when it comes to making their home safe. Just recently, my husband and I went through our home and did a very thorough search on how we could make our house safer.

We found quite a bit of things we could do and did them. There were some things we had overlooked as well and not thought twice about. Here are five ways to make your home safe. There are more things you can do, so go through your home like my husband and I did and find things that will make your home safe as well.

Check Your Door Locks

One of the first things I want to recommend to make your home safe is checking your locks on your doors. It is a good idea to have good quality locks on your doors. It is also a good idea to have at least one dead bolt lock on each door. Make sure they are high quality locks. Don’t go for the cheap locks because they are easier to break into. With the way break ins are today, it is so important to keep your home safe with good locks on the doors.

Check Your Smoke Detectors and Fire Extinguishers

Another way to make your home safe is to check your smoke detectors and fire extinguishers. You should have at least two to three extinguishers in your house depending on the size of your house. You should check your detectors to make sure they are working and have good batteries in them.

Check Your Wall Sockets

Go through your house and check all of your wall sockets. Make sure there are no wires hanging out and make sure the sockets itself is not hanging out. You also need to make sure you don’t have the sockets overloaded. For example, don’t have 8 things plugged in one socket. It’s ok to use a power surge to plugin more than two plugs, but don’t overload all of the plugs in your livingroom, for example.

Install Carbon Monoxide Detectors

Carbon Monoxide is a dangerous, silent, odorless killer. It is important that you buy detectors to put in your home to alert you if the poisoning is in your home. You can’t smell it, you can’t see it, and you can’t taste it. The detectors will save your lives.

First Aid Kit

Another thing you should have in your home to make it safer is a first aid kit. It is important that every home has a first aid kit. These kits can save lives. In the kit, you should have things like band-aids, anti-biotic creams, gauzes, scissors, aspirins, tape, and other medical stuff for the kit.
