Five Ways to Repurpose a Plastic Magazine Box

Organize any number of items when you repurpose a plastic magazine box. You can save money and recycle office supplies like plastic magazine holders when you give them a new purpose. If you’re like me, you would rather find another way to use something rather than add it the recycling bin or garbage pail. After recycling magazines recently, and cutting back on home office clutter I found myself with some extra plastic magazine racks. Here is how I used them.

Five Ways to Repurpose a Plastic Magazine Box

1. Corral Mis-matched Toddler Plates

Re-purpose a plastic magazine box to corral unruly toddler plates. Parents know that all of the cute character plates and divided plates well-meaning people like to give as gifts never behave in the cabinet. They do not fit together because some are divided into three sections, and other child plates have four sections. The plates can be thick or thin, and they hardly ever match. Stacking them in a cabinet does not work. Previously I tried storing them in large Ziploc bag. That did not work because I was the only one in the house using that method to organize the plates.

Then I repurposed a plastic magazine box into a child plate holder. The child plates fit in the plastic magazine box, and stay put. The plastic magazine box was a good solution because I can store the plates vertically, When I reach for one I will not be pummeled in the head by falling plates. For cabinets that are not tall enough, you could try placing the repurposed plastic magazine rack horizontally, but the plates may slide out.

2. Organize Face Cloths

In our linen cabinet, the face cloths hide out under the towels wherever they can. To help solve the mystery of the disappearing facecloths, I repurposed a plastic magazine rack to become a face cloth holder. By folding the facecloths in half and then rolling them up, I found that I could neatly store all of the face cloths into one place.

A second plastic magazine box was repurposed to house the baby facecloths and small towels.

3. Store Winter Hats and Gloves

For seasonal living, it is convenient to have a place to store winter hats and winter gloves. I repurposed a plastic magazine box to hold winter hats and another to hold winter gloves. It is easy to store this repurposed a plastic magazine box on a closet floor or self for easy access during the transitional seasons.

Tip: Tuck one mitten or glove inside another to keep the pair together.

4. Tame Extra Umbrellas

I would ratherrepurpose a plastic magazine rack to tame extra umbrellas than go out and buy and actual umbrella rack. We have a small but unruly umbrella collection. The re-purposed a plastic magazine rack is just the right size to leave in the entryway or in the hallway closet for easy umbrella access.

5. Catch Small Sports Items and Shin Guards

Let the sports-playing kids in the family re-purpose a plastic magazine rack to house their small sports equipment, including shin guards or soccer socks. A repurposed a plastic magazine box can also become the home for small badminton birdies, jump ropes, and Frisbees.
