Fluid: Review of a Philadelphia Night Club

Tonight we take a trip to Fluid Night Club located at 613 S. 4th street in Philadelphia, Pa. This Philadelphia night club is set back about a block off of Philadelphia’s own South Street, making the night club itself very accessible and fairly easy to park near.

Fluid Night Club offers a few recurring parties, or weekly events. Mainly they are thought of for their Sunday night party “Fast, Cheap, and Out of Control!” which, if I am going to Fluid, would be the night for me. The cover charge for Sunday nights is a nominal $5.

There are also weekly parties such as “Slut N.W.B.” on Monday nights and “Tasty Treats” on Saturday nights. Not to mention the random party nights during the rest of the week. The musical selections vary but the main staples here are based in electronic dance. Fluid’s website outlines the music styles for each night as well as the cover charges.

As for the club itself, Fluid is a decent club, it is fairly clean and a safe, a fun atmosphere for hanging out with friends or getting it on with the dance floor. There are just a few quirky things you should know about Fluid though, as well as some minor draw backs.

For one thing, everyone must check their coats at Fluid. If you decide to keep your coat instead of paying the $2 coat check fee, do not get caught with your coat on the bar. People who leave their coats on the bar will be asked to leave the club. This Philadelphia night club is very strict when it comes to keeping their bar clear.

Another, sort of quirky rule is their “no cameras” rule. Women and men with bags are asked to open then for inspection at the door for a security check. So if you are having that perfect hair day, snap it before you leave for the Philadelphia night club. Fluid Night Club did not offer me an explanation for this rule, but I suspect that it has something to do with the Go-Go style dancers that grace the small stages inside on some nights.

The two biggest gripes that most club goers I have spoken to mention have with Fluid are this, high drink prices and the small size of the actual club.

The drink prices are not that high for a night club in Philadelphia, as a matter of fact they are on par for a night club in Philadelphia in my experience. You get a mix drink in a medium sized cup for around $5 to $7 each and beers are $4 or $5 as well. Not so bad compared to other night club atmospheres.

As for the size of the club itself, well, that is another thing all together. Both the size of the dance floor and the size of the bar do leave a bit to be desired. With only one bar, and often times only one bartender, you are likely to spend a good amount of time waiting on drinks. The layout of the dance floor also leaves much to be desired, with limited space already, it is made worse by small dance stages and columns in the middle of the floor.
Despite all of this Fluid still remains a fun place to dance and drink. So if you find your self in the South Philadelphia area and you are looking to get in some night club time, why not give Fluid Night Club a chance. You may find that it is the right place for you.
