Fun and Easy Marabou Lampshade
For this craft, you will need:
– One plain lampshade, any size
– Enough fabric to cover the lampshade
– A hot glue gun and glue sticks
– Enough length of marabou feather trim to line the top of the shade as well as the bottom
– Scissors
– Measuring tape
– Iron and ironing board
– Spray adhesive that will work with fabric
Begin first by making sure your lampshade is free of any dust or dirt. Using a measuring tape, measure the amount of fabric you will need for your lampshade by taking the width of the shade and multiplying it by the height. Cut a piece of fabric this size plus one inch for an overlap.
Using the ironing board and an iron on a warm setting, lightly press the fabric to remove any wrinkles. Allow the fabric to cool completely before continuing.
Apply spray adhesive to the back of the fabric. Wrap the fabric piece around the lampshade so that it covers. Fold the one inch overlap over to form a tidy seam, and secure with the hot glue gun. Allow the glue to dry fully.
Cut enough length of marabou trim to wrap around the top of the lampshade and act as a “border”. Secure the trim using a hot glue gun, and allow the glue to dry fully. Repeat the process with the bottom portion of the lampshade and an additional length of marabou trim. Allow all glue to dry before attaching the shade back to the lamp.
Voila! You have now created a fun and easy marabou lampshade that works perfectly as a gift or for use in your own home.
TIP: Be creative with your fabric and trim choice. Choose a solid color for a bold effect or choose a pattern for a fun, flirty effect. Deep purples, blacks, and reds add a stunning touch to your shade, or if you opt for patterns animal prints, floral prints, and toiles all work well. Or, for a little girl’s bedroom try using a soft pink fabric with a light rose colored marabou trim. The sky is really the limit, so customize this project to meet your dÃ?©cor and design needs!
