Glittered Hot Pink Star Pencil Box

Pencil boxes are a wonderful way to hold small items such as pens and paper clips in your home office or cubicle. Just as a pencil box was important in grade school, this adorable glittered hot pink star project will liven up your work area.

For this project, you will need:

– One unfinished cigar style wooden box (available at craft supply stores)

– Medium grit sandpaper

– Tack cloth or other soft cloth

– Krylon Indoor Outdoor Primer in All-Purpose White

– Krylon Indoor Outdoor Paint in Watermelon

– Krylon Glitter Spray in Shimmering Star

– Star shaped stencil

– Hot pink colored cardstock

– Pencil

– Craft knife

– Self healing mat

– Xyron machine fitted with a double sided adhesive cartridge

– Shallow pan

– Hot pink glitter

– Hot glue gun and glue sticks

– Newspaper

First, cover your work area with a few sheets of old newspaper to prevent any overspray or damage to your workspace. Gently sand an unfinished cigar style wooden box with medium grit sandpaper. Wipe away any dust from the sanding process with a tack cloth or other soft cloth. Spray the entire outside of the box in Krylon Indoor Outdoor Primer in All-Purpose White. Allow the primed wood surface to dry for an hour before proceeding. Paint the entire outside of the box using Krylon Indoor Outdoor Paint in Watermelon. Let the paint dry for an hour before adding a second coat. Let the box dry overnight.

Set a sheet of hot pink colored cardstock flat on the self healing mat. In pencil, trace a large star shaped shape from a stencil onto the paper. Cut out the paper star with a craft knife.

Run the pink shape through an Xyron machine that has been fitted with a double sided adhesive cartridge. Remove the top protective layer from the star shape and set into a shallow pan. Sprinkle the star with a large amount of hot pink glitter. Shake off any excess.

Remove the protective sheeting from the back of the star shape. Heat up and hot glue gun. Apply a dab of glue to the back of the shape and adhere the star in the center of the painted box lid. Let the glue cool completely. Spray the entire project with an even coat of Krylon Glitter Spray in Shimmering Star. Dry overnight before using.

TIP: This project would also look excellent when using silver glitter instead of hot pink.
