Going to Heaven: God’s Plan and Every Good Man’s Destiny?

For centuries Christians everywhere have believed that if you are good and go to Church, then when you die you will be rewarded with eternal life in heaven. But, is that really what God has lined up for us? Why don’t we look into the Bible and see what our creator has to say on the subject.

Look at God’s original purpose.

If you read Genesis over pretty well (look closely at Genesis 2:15) there is no mention or even a hint that God had promised Adam he would live in heaven at any point. His purpose was to live on the earth and cultivate the garden Jehovah had created. Yes, things changed after he sinned but, does this mean Gods plans changed?
If you read Genesis over pretty well (look closely at Genesis 2:15) there is no mention or even a hint that God had promised Adam he would live in heaven at any point. His purpose was to live on the earth and cultivate the garden Jehovah had created. Yes, things changed after he sinned but, does this mean Gods plans changed?

“God is not a man that he should tell lies,
Neither a son of mankind that he should feel regret.
Has he himself said it and will he not do it,
And has he spoken and will he not carry it out?”
-Numbers 23:19

“so my word that goes forth from my mouth will prove to be. It will not return to me without results, but it will certainly do that in which I have delighted, and it will have certain success in that for which I have sent it” -Isaiah 55:11

These scriptures show that God’s plans do not fail. If he starts to do something it will have “certain success”.

Death – – part of Gods plan?

Is it a fair assumption to say that God planned for humans to live on earth for a certain number of years, die, and then ascend to heaven? An examination of the scriptures shows results to the contrary.

“That is why, just as through one man sin entered into the world and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men because they had all sinned-” -Romans 5:12

“For the wages sin pays is death” -Romans 6:23

This is clear evidence that only after Adam sinned did death enter into the picture. Humans were meant to live forever on the earth doing the same job Adam had been assigned.

Do any go to heaven?

So we’ve taken a brief look into Gods plans for humankind which shows that God does not plan for man to live in heaven. But, are there some that will go to heaven? Yes. Indeed there are. In fact the Bible gives us the exact number of humans that will live in heaven.

“And I heard the number of those who were sealed, a hundred and forty-four thousand, sealed out of every tribe of the sons of Israel:” -Revelation 7:4

“And I saw, and, look! the Lamb standing upon the Mount Zion, and with him a hundred and forty-four thousand having his name and the name of his Father written on their foreheads. ” Revelation 14:1

“And they are singing as if a new song before the throne and before the four living creatures and the elders; and no one was able to master that song but the hundred and forty-four thousand, who have been bought from the earth” -Revelation 14:3

These, and other, scriptures show that God has made a place for 144,000 faithful humans to go to heaven and rule as kings and priests at Jesus’ side. it does not say that heaven is the destiny of all humanity.

So what happens to the rest of us?

So is that it? 144,000 go to heaven and the rest of us are done for? Not hardly. The Bible shows us that Jehovah has a wonderful prospect for all those that are faithful to him.

“But the meek ones themselves will possess the earth,
And they will indeed find their exquisite delight in the abundance of peace” -Psalms 37:11

“The righteous themselves will possess the earth,
And they will reside forever upon it” -Psalms 37:29

“Happy are the mild-tempered ones, since they will inherit the earth” -Matthew 5:5

The Bible is very clear as to Gods purpose for mankind. We are to live here on earth just as he planned in the beginning. Jesus himself showed us to pray for this in his prayer (Now known as “the lords prayer”) when he said “Let your kingdom come. Let your will take place, as in heaven, also upon earth” (Matthew 6:10)

So after a look into the Bible, we come to realize that we are not destined for a heavenly life at all. I hope you found this article to be informative.

Jehovah Bless You
