Good Seafood Outside of New Orleans

You don’t have to walk the French Quarter, fight for a parking place, or spend an arm and a leg to eat delicious New Orleans food. There are many delectable eats in the nearby suburb, Metairie, that are family friendly, affordable, and park-able.

Barreca’s, located at 3100 Metairie Road (about ten minutes from the city limits), is a wonderful Italian and Seafood restaurant. The place is always packed on Friday and Saturday nights, but for the best deals, hit the early-bird-special. For $13.95 you get bread, a salad, choice of soup or gumbo, choice of entrÃ?©e, and dessert. The portions are huge, the food is amazing, and passing up dessert is a crime. This is a family-friendly restaurant that still believes dinner should be an event, not just another meal. Attire is dressy casual. They offer valet parking only.

The QuarterView is another New Orleans style restaurant. Located at 613 Clearview Parkway (about 15 to 20 minutes outside of the city). From the mountain of onion rings to the gumbo and from the shrimp po-boys to the boiled crawfish the portions are huge and the prices are cheap. Parking can be a bit of a task if you go during peak hours (the place can get pretty crowded) but it is do-able. This family friendly restaurant feels like a little cafÃ?© or bistro. It’s a great place to kick back or meet up with friends. The attire is casual.

Don’s Seafood Hut, located at 4801 Veterans Boulevard offers authentic Cajun cuisine. Lunches range from $6.75 for a hamburger steak to shrimp and oysters en brouchette for $9.50. Dinners range from $9.00 to $20.00. Be sure to save room for the homemade bread pudding with rum sauce, it’s a fav among the locals! Pickup a Boudreaux & Thibodaux shirt or Cajun cookbook in the gift shop before you leave! Parking is never a problem. Attire is casual.
