Great Chinese Food, Greater Prices in Rowland Heights

In a city as highly populated in Chinese-Americans as Rowland Heights, it’s easy to find a Chinese Restaurant – but it takes months of exploration and taste-testing experience to find a good one. New Garden ranks at the top of the list, covering restaurants from L.A. to Rowland Heights.

What makes New Garden different from the rest is in its great food at great prices. Lunch and dinner menu’s start at $4.95 and rarely go above $10.00. You can order for pick-up, or enjoy the Far East decor inside its spacious location. Snuggly located in the Hanmi Bank Plaza, New Garden is a highly popular establishment for families and young professionals alike. Any time you can find the place packed with college students taking a break from studies or families out for a quality meal.

They specialize in dim sum but also have a wide variety of menu options to choose from: Kung Pao Chicken or Shrimp, Broccoli Beef, Won Ton Soups, Noodles, Roast Duck, Fried Rice, and much, much more. The food, unlike many other Chinese restaurants, is not slathered in grease or MSG. Instead, New Garden carefully cooks each dish with the right amount of flavorings to give it that subtle, but detectable taste. You will never get that feeling of malaise after dining at some Chinese Restaurants that seem to use grease and oils by the quart.

As an added bonus, they also prepare Korean dishes off the menu, like Korean Bar-B-Que and many spicy, Korean soups. The waiters, waitresses, hosts and hostesses are always pleasant and smiling, and I’ve personally never had bad service whether dining-in or taking out. The other service plus is that no matter how busy they are, your order arrives within a few minutes. They have at least seven chefs working dilligently in the back, and the atmosphere reflects the professional appreciation a food-service establishment strives to achieve.

My personal favorites are the Broccoli Beef, the Kung Pao dishes, and the Spicy Squid soup off their Korean selections. New Garden is an excellent choice to have your favorite dish or try a new one. Nothing is prepared radically different, so trying a new dish comes at no high risk. The menu boasts six pages of lunch and dinner specials, along with appetizers, drinks, and dessert.

Despite being flanked by other Asian-cuisine restaurants to either side of it, New Garden always maintains a busy and popular atmosphere, which speaks to its quality. The restaurant is open seven days a week, from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. and they are always open on holidays. If the dread of holiday cooking takes its last toll, you can always visit New Garden for a change of pace and have a delicious holiday meal in a warm, friendly atmosphere.
