Great Places to Learn to Ski or Snowboard Near Seattle

Seattle is fairly close to some nice ski areas. Crystal Mountain, Mount Baker, Stevens Pass, and Snoqualmie Pass are all within driving distance, and are fun places to go with friends or family. They typically get some good snow, too, and skiing is Washington is a great getaway on the weekends. But skiing and snowboarding can be cold and painful on your first trip. Why not get some lessons? Rather than trying to teach your kids yourself, and falling into that inevitability frustrating role of “parent coach,” why not let someone more objective teach your kids? They will benefit from working with a patient, experienced staff with a great deal of childcare and skiing experience. Mogul “mice” learn the basics of skiing, from forming the pizza wedge with their skis, to moving past the training wheel phase to form parallel turns. They will also benefit from the social aspect of making new friends, listening skills, and respect for adults who aren’t their parents. As Mogul mice are typically young elementary age, this is a great time to let them branch out and expand their experiences with other people. The Fiorini Ski school has been in operation for over fifty years. Founded by people that loved skiing, ad wanted to spread that thrill to children and adults, the school still operates on those principles. Instructors, many of whom are former students, are skilled and patient, and know necessary safety measures. All instructors are equipped with radio devices, which will ease parents’ fears. Supervised bus service is provided to and from the mountain. Students will learn basic skiing techniques, learn speed control, and proper body stance to maximize balance and minimize potential for injury. Students will feel increased control over their skis, and will soon be ready to try more difficult terrain. Snowboarding instruction is also available. Both ski and snowboard instructors are enthusiastic and cater to all levels of experience. This is a great way for a snow lover of any age to sharpen their skills.

The Summit Learning Center strives to make ski lessons as fun and as easy as possible. Aspiring skiers 3 years old and over can take lessons here, and the center teaches both skiing and snowboarding. Day and weekly sessions are available, depending on your need. Snoqualmie is a great little hill that gets good snowfall, so it’s the perfect place to learn.
