Guide to Amazing Infinity Pools

When it comes to commanding attention in high end pools, there’s a new sheriff in town. Enter the amazing infinity pool. This stunning water feature gets its name from the illusion it brings to your landscape. Also known as a negative or vanishing edge pool, the design includes a swimming or reflection pool that looks like it’s vanishing into the horizon – thereby going on for infinity. Although extremely expensive to build and maintain, these pools are guaranteed take your breath away.

• Square Deck Drop Off

One application for an infinity pool is a squared off deck or series of decks with flat surfaces that flow seamlessly from one space to another. The big difference between this deck and any ordinary deck is that the outer perimeter contains a flat pool of water that flows magically over the edge – yet keeps full in the balance. Some deck drop off pools actually have several water decks that feed each other for a magnificent display.

• Patio Overflow

Similar to a deck drop off, a patio overflow looks more like water-filled wading pool attached to an outdoor patio with the water cascading down the outer edge of the patio. These designs follow the flow of a patio or terrace – including curved infinity edges to complement the architecture of the connected outdoor spaces.

• Stone Structures

There are a number of different designs available using stone and infinity pool technology. You can have a raised or deep water pool cascade over a stacked stone wall. Or you can create a stone-filled edge around an interior infinity pool structure. Another application is a thin layer pool filled with stones that resembles a large brook or rock filled lake – integrating with the landscape that surrounds your home. Each is equally beautiful in the right space.

• A Continuous Water Feature

If you’re fortunate enough to have real estate that overlooks a body of water, adding an infinity pool to meet that water creates the illusion of your pool extending on forever. Nothing can compare to such grandeur.

• A Forest Lake Dream

You don’t have to live on a beach or a hillside drop off to enjoy the beauty of an infinity pool. Install a blue water pool that extends outward into a rich landscape of tall trees and lush foliage and you’ll create a pool the rivals a forest lake – complete with the reflection of the trees on the water’s surface. It’s the stuff dreams are made of.
