Chicago and the surrounding area, better known as Chicagoland, are full of fun and family friendly Halloween activities. Many of these show up year after year and have easily become Halloween activity traditions with the locals. All of the Halloween activities listed here are fun family activities in the Chicago and Chicagoland area. Here are three great annual Halloween activities in the Chicago and Chicagoland area.

Country Line Orchard

Nothing is more fun during the cool crisp Halloween season than picking apples. This is great family fun perfect for a little daytime fun. Each year thousands of Chicagoans flock to the suburbs to pick apple, participate in outdoor activities, and generally welcome the fall and Halloween at Country Line Orchard.

Country Line Orchard’s apple picking season runs from August 26 all the way to Halloween Day. Don’t worry they have a lot more than apples at Country Line Orchard. Specifically, you can pick your own pumpkins. They have pumpkins perfect for decorating your home for Halloween. The choices are endless and you can even find white pumpkins. Pick a few apples, load up on some pumpkins, and enjoy the beautiful fall weather.

Country Line Orchards also offers wagon rides, an 8 acre maze through cornfields, and live animals. Kids can pet many of the animals, burn off a little energy running through the mazes, and in general be a kid. The best feature of Country Line Orchard is their Country Store housed in their big red barn. You can buy all sorts so of sweets like donuts, pies, cider, and gourmet food items. They even sell toys.

If you can’t make it during the day there are Halloween activities like campfires and hay rides offered on Friday and Saturday evenings as well.

Statesville Haunted Prison

Ok, now this annual Chicago Halloween activity may be for you and the older kids. This haunted house has been voted the number one haunted house in the Chicago and Chicagoland for the last four years! Professional Actors bring the truly scary feeling to this authentic haunted house production. Actors dress as Hannibal the Cannibal, John Wayne Gacy, Demons and Haunted Wardens lead a tour through the haunted house of evil. This is one of the most scary haunted Halloween houses I have ever been to. This is not for r young children.

Frightmare 2006

Now Frightmare is truly an annual Halloween activity that is a must do if you are in the Chicago area around Halloween. It has been running every year for 15 years and is starting in on its 16th tear. While every major city has their version of fright fest, Chicago has taken theirs to the next level. High tech meets old fashioned hunted houses at Frightmare 2006. There is a 600 foot haunted maze, a haunted house, and lots of special effects. This is a great way to spend a Friday night in Chicago.

Frightmare 2006 is located at 7759 South Harlem Avenue, Burbank, Illinois, 60459. This about 25 minutes outside of the Chicago city limits. Parking is readily available and expect to see big crowds. I recommend comfortable shoes, because you have to do a lot of walking to enjoy this Halloween activity.
