Gun Control II
As we’ve seen, the Liberal idea of banning guns, long guns and hand guns, is merely an exercise in futility. The criminals do not play by the same rules as the rest of the civilized world. The gun registry will no doubt enable police to track some guns back to their rightful owners if they have been used in a crime, but it will no doubt be a negligible amount.
The police chiefs of Canada, who were initially against the registry, will now argue for its continuation, based on the supposition that if they know where the guns are, they can respond to a situation more properly. In the wake of the 4 Mounties being shot to death in Alberta recently, this argument has some merit. However, we can not ignore the fact that these were 4 inexperienced cops who should have had someone with more training leading them. We cannot ignore the fact that the shooter was well known in his community as a nut case who had guns on his property. To use the excuse of knowing where guns are in order to formulate a proper response rings hollow. Any cop I’ve ever spoken to tells me the same thing, that when they are called upon to do their duty, be it issuing a traffic ticket, breaking up a domestic disturbance or taking down a drug dealer, they all go in prepared for the worst case scenario.
Banning guns didn’t work in Britain or Australia, but for some reason the Liberals seemed to think it would work here. I’m just a working stiff but even I can figure out that if a program I am thinking about implementing isn’t working in the places I look to for guidance, it probably won’t work for me either. This really isn’t rocket science, folks.
If we look to the USA, we see some weird stats. In those states where it is legal to own a handgun, firearm crimes are down. What a shock! Instead of walking down the street, knowing the occupant of the house I want to burgle doesn’t have a gun so I can just march in through the front door and do what I want, I think twice, assume he may have a gun and he’s liable to use it on me, and just keep on walking.
When they outlaw guns, only outlaws will have guns seems to ring true. Why is this so hard for the Liberals to get their heads around? We don’t have to do anything about guns. We have to do something about the people who use them. It gives us a nice, warm, fuzzy feeling to say show the gunmen an alternative to their life of crime, but try explaining to a high school drop out that he should stay in school, get his diploma and get a job paying him $40,000 per year, when in a short time he can make 40 drug transactions for the same amount of money and as a kicker, he doesn’t have to pay any tax on it. Setting up basketball courts, building hockey rinks, joining a boy scout troop are all nice and good, but they just don’t work.
Some people will find Jesus and leave their past behind for the betterment of mankind. Others will continue in their ill conceived notions of what life owes them. It is the latter group we have to deal with.
