Halloween Events in New York City

There is more to Halloween than Trick or Treat. Many private and public organizations In New York City have special family Halloween Events. There are haunted houses, spooky stories, pumpkin hunts, parades, fortune tellers and much more. These events take place in all five Boroughs. This is just a sample of what is going on, but they are some of the best. You might want to contact your local park to see if they have any special events, also check your local restaurants to see if they have any dinner specials. Whatever you choose to do, have a good time and don’t be afraid of the ghosts and long leg beasties you might encounter.

Manhattan, New York

New York’s Village Halloween Parade

Come to Greenwich Village Halloween night for the biggest, most outrageous fun time. This parade makes Mardi Gras look like a school picnic. Get there early to get a good place.

Staten Island, New York

The Greenbelt Conservatory

The Conservatory has five great Halloween events going on.
The first, The Halloween Craft Workshop, is on Saturday, October 14 from 1 p.m. – 3 p.m.. You must call for registration: 1-718-351-3450 This if for ages 8 and up.
The second is Scary Story Night, Friday, October 27 the event is free but you must call the above number to register. What is more Halloween than scary stories by a fireside?
The third, Creepy Critters Kids Event, is on Saturday, October 28 at 10 a.m. & 12:30 p.m.. This is an out door hiking event, so be sure everyone wears appropriate foot gear. Kids are invited to wear their costumes. Registration is required.
Number four is for the adults, It is Psychic Night in the Greenbelt held on Saturday, October 28 starting at 7PM Come in costume and have a session with a professional psychic while enjoying good food and spirits ( the kind that comes in a bottle) while listening to the music. Reservations are required.

Historic Richmond Town, Staten Island

Historic Richmond Town has 2 special events for Halloween Th first one is a traditional Halloween Party Friday, October 27, 2006 1:30 P.M.. There will be a Puppet show, trick or treating in the historic village, apple bobbing, games and much more. PLEASE note this is an event you must pre register for call 718-351-1611 Ext. 281.
The second one is Scary Stories at Decker Farm Saturday, October 28, 2006.

The Staten Island Zoo

On October 23-24, 6-9:30pm The Staten Island Zoo presents Spooktacular. There will be fortune tellers, story tellers, witches and goblins. There will also be crafts and special exhibits. action shows, musical entertainment and a guided walk around the zoo lit only by lanterns.

The Van Cortland House and Museum

On October 30 from 4-7 pm. come to the mansion for Haunted Happenings. There will be scary stories, tours of the haunted basement( bring a flashlight for this one), hikes along the haunted walk, visits with the fortune teller, magic shows, face painting, craft projects and much more.

Queens, New York

The Queens County Farm Museum

The Queens County Farm Museum is a great place all year long. They have three special events for Halloween
On Saturdays and Sundays October 1-29 you can come to the farm and Pick-Your-Own-Pumpkin. The bigger the pumpkin, the more you pay, but admission to the pumpkin patch itself is free. On October 28, 29, and 31 from 4:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m come to the farm and visit the Halloween Haunted House if you dare. This is not recommended for children under 4.

Sunday, October 29 the farm presents The Children’s Fall Festival This is going to be quite the party. Children are invited to wear their costumes, but it is not required. There will be pony rides and a petting zoo, sack races and something unique a treasure hunt in the hay stacks. There will be craters, plenty of food and county and western music and dancing. This is a great event for the whole family.

Socrates Sculpture Park, 3134 Vernon Blvd at Broadway, Long Island City
The park is right by the East River with beautiful views of Manhattan,
Halloween Harvest Festival will be held on Saturday, October 14, 11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. (rain or shine) they have a great many Halloween projects for the family to do. You can make a costume, listen to the creepy, scary music, have your palm read and dress up the dog for the pooch parade, You can also vote for the winner.

Brooklyn, New York

The Prospect Park Zoo

Come to the park on October 28-29 for Boo at the Zoo. There will be face painting, craft making, encounters with spooky creatures, and, If you dare walk through the Zoo’s haunted barn. You never know who, or what, you will meet up with.

The Narrows Botanical Garden in Bay Ridge

On Sunday, October 29 from noon until 5PM(rain date, Sunday, November 5) come to the park and bring your dog in costume, You have to register the pooch for the parade in advance. In addition to the doggie costume contest, there will be an Art Show & Crafts Sale

Bronx, New York

The Bronx Zoo
