Haunted America: Enjoy the Hospitality, Good Food & Ghosts at the Quaint Maple Valley Inn in Trufant, Michigan

The paranormal dictionary defines a spectral apparition as being the solid or transparent image of a person or animal that materializes even though a physical body is not present. The paranormal community defines an apparition as one of the most sought after types of paranormal evidence, giving professional ghost hunters a tough job involving many hours at haunted locations in hopes of catching one during video footage or on camera.

Thankfully for ghost hunters, this normally hard to locate spectral apparition has no problem showing up at the Maple Valley Inn, nestled in the quaint and quiet town of Trufant, Michigan, appearing in old photographs at the 100 year-old bar at free will, according to owner, Janet Wood and her staff who keep the town supplied with delicious and affordable meals at the historic establishment that sit’s in the heart of the “Stump Fence Capital” where today many decorative stumps are visible from the yards where they were once used as fences. Each year during the Labor Day weekend, the Trufant Jubilee Festival fills the streets with thousands of people looking for music, fireworks, activities, contests, and fun. Now they can add good food and ghosts to that list of things to see while visiting the nearby Maple Valley Inn located just around the corner from the festival.

It is unknown just how long ghosts have been a part of the Maple Valley Inn, but it soon became apparent that the paranormal activity was not limited to the inn’s old photographs, in fact the kitchen is a hot-bed of supernatural occurrences that keep’s Cliff Niles, the inn’s cook and handyman on his toes. Cliff’s satellite radio keeps him entertained during the wee morning hours while he is prepping food for the breakfast rush. During this time he finds that something has pulled his antenna part way out, stopping his fifty’s music from flooding the airways. After correcting the issue and walking away, Cliff’s music would be silenced once again. This time by something that has completely pulled the cord out.

The unexplained mystery carried on for months. After consideration of the spooky situation, Cliff determined that the issue was about his choice of music. If he played country, all was fine, but the second he turned it to the fifty’s station, all hell broke loose. Pots and pans would rattle, lights would flicker off and on, and walking in the attic could be heard, even though he was working alone. Questions to the paranormal phenomena taking place needed addressed, and more specifically, who was behind all of the chaos.

News of the paranormal at the Maple Valley Inn didn’t escape the attention of Scott Sheldon, founder of G.H.O.S.T. Paranormal Investigations. Scott and his team set up their equipment throughout the bar, everything from thermal cameras, non-contact thermometers, K-II EMF detectors, digital audio recorders, motion detectors, laser grids, and an infrared digital recording system.

Evidence of ghosts came quicker then the team expected when the voice of a small boy came clearly through the voice recorder. EMF fluctuations, voices and unexplained noises continued through the night as the team waited for actual video footage to show proof of who or what was behind the supernatural events taking place at the inn. The team was not let down with their findings. At least three restless spirits reside at the Maple Valley Inn, but they are harmless entities just wishing to be a part of the activities at the event-packed bar.

The paranormal investigation team plans to share their findings with the public during a dinner party planned in late November at the bar. During the paranormal-themed event they will also get into ghost hunting techniques, so that everyone will have a better understanding of unexplained mysteries that occur in our universe and not be afraid of paranormal activity.
