Hiring a Wedding Consultant
If you know that hiring a wedding consultant is an option, it’s best to hire one before you begin any official wedding planning. This way, you’ll have someone working with you throughout the entire process, and it’s less likely that you’ll skip any steps, forget things that you really want to include. Even though most people choose to hire their wedding consultant in the beginning of the planning phase, if you’ve already worked most of the details out and will need someone on more of a part-time basis, or for one part of the wedding celebration, be sure to be clear about your situation when looking for a consultant to work with.
Make sure that you at least have an idea of how you want the wedding to look and the impression you want the ceremony to give before you meet with the wedding consultant. It may be best to write everything down to have something for the consultant to see, so that he/she can help you make any changes that will make putting your wedding together easier. So, if you already have your wedding colors in mind, know the style you want your dress to be in, or have ideas about location, share these ideas with your consultant. He/she may be able to help you find ways to make your plans more affordable, and you may come up with ideas together that will work much better to achieve your overall vision for the ceremony.
There are usually lots of listings for wedding consultants that are local, so don’t feel that you have to get in touch with every consultant that you see on the Internet or in the phone book. Look at maybe ten ads, and from those ten, choose five that you could realistically hire. Narrow that five down to about three consultants, and call them to set up interviews. When you’re meeting a potential wedding consultant, there are some things you should look for before you even ask to see their credentials. For instance, is the person genuinely friendly? When the two of you are having a conversation, does he/she tend to take over more often than they listen quietly? Also, look at the potential wedding consultant’s appearance. How are they dressed? Is there look more classic or trendy? Are they groomed well, or do they look a little frazzled? These things will give you an indication of how well the two of you will work together; if you feel like you can ‘t get a word in, you may not be able to express your ideas about your ceremony, and this could be frustrating. But, you do want someone who is confident in their job, so look for a balance of listening and talking in your initial discussion. You’ll also get a glimpse into how well the finished product will turn out. A person’s appearance is almost indicative of the work they do, so select the style of the wedding consultant based on the style you’d like for your wedding.
