Holiday Movies to Get You in the Christmas Spirit
The day after Thanksgiving is a day for relaxing, for resting, for unwindingâÂ?¦all the Christmas lights. If you’re staying in and decorating instead of shopping on Black Friday, there are a few holiday movies that are sure to get you into the spirit of the season.
- Miracle on 34th Street
The original “Miracle on 34th Street,” made in 1947, is chock-full of holiday goodness. The movie begins with the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade, an iconic event that celebrates the official start of the Christmas season. The film stars Edmund Gwenn as Kris Kringle, one of the best movie Santas on record. Natalie Wood and Maureen O’Hara are the cynical daughter and mother who must discover their holiday faith.
- Jingle All the Way
You’ll be glad you’re not out shopping every time you watch this fun holiday film starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sinbad and Tom Arnold. What’s funnier than seeing these three men at their holiday best? Before he was the Governator, he was a father trying to find a must-have holiday toy for his son. If you can relate, you’ll love “Jingle All the Way.”
- Four Christmases
If you know what it’s like to have a lot of holiday obligations, you’ll appreciate “Four Christmases.” The busy day this couple has will make you happy you have almost a month before Christmas arrives. Vince Vaughn is at his funniest, Reese Witherspoon is at her cutest and the supporting cast is truly amazing.
- Prancer
Perfect for kids and heartwarming for adults, “Prancer” is about a lost reindeer and the little girl who’s going to rescue him. Most of the movie takes place before the arrival of Christmas, and that makes it a perfect film to help you get into the spirit of the season.
- Deck the Halls
Since the day after Thanksgiving is celebrated by many with Christmas decorations, “Deck the Halls” couldn’t be more appropriate. Danny DeVito and Matthew Broderick become rivals due to Christmas decorations in this film. The hilarity that ensues will make you want to add many more lights to your own display.
