Holiday Shopping Guide: Northern Exposure Season 1 and Season 2 DVD Box Set

Is someone on your shopping list a fan of the television series Northern Exposure starring Rob Morrow? If so then you can start their Northern Exposure Series DVD Box Set collection by buying them the Season 1 and Season 2 box set. This box set offers 15 Northern Exposure episodes including the pilot episode that got the whole thing rolling, bonus footage, and unexposed footage that television audiences have never seen.

Northern Exposure: The Complete First Season DVD Collection

The first season of Northern Exposure is contained within its own case. Inside this case you will find two discs, and each disc will have four episodes from the first season. On disc one you can watch: Pilot; Brains, Know-How and Native Intelligence; Soapy Sanderson; and Dreams, Schemes and Putting Greens. On disc two you can watch: Russian Flue; Sex, Lies, and Ed’s Tape; a Kodiak Moment; and Aurora Borealis. In addition to the original episodes from season one these discs also contain deleted scenes, bonus footage from the “Soapy Sanderson” episode, extended footage from the “Sex, Lies, and Ed’s Tape” episode, and unexposed footage from the season.

This collection has a running time of 6 hours and 23 minutes. It also can be subtitled in English SDH, Spanish, or French. The sound in this collection is in English Dolby Digital 2.0.

Northern Exposure: The Complete Second Season DVD Collection

The second season of Northern Exposure is also contained within its own case. Inside this case you will find two disc. On the first disc you will find the following four episodes: Goodbye To All That; The Big Kiss; All is Vanity; and What I Did For Love. On the second disc you will find: Spring Break; War and Peace, and Slow Dance. This season doesn’t has as much extra footage as the first season, but it does offer deleted scenes and unexposed footage.

This collection is presented in full frame 1.33:1 format. It offers English Dolby Digital 2.0. It can run with English SDH, Spanish, or French subtitles. And it has a running time of 5 hours and 31 minutes.

Pros of this Two Season Northern Exposure Collection

The first advantage of buying the two season box collection as opposed to buying season one and season two separately is that you generally save money. Normally Season One retails for somewhere between $40 and $50, and Season Two usually retails between $40 and $50. It doesn’t make sense to buy the two seasons separately when you can buy them together for the same price as buying only one season alone. Another plus for this collection is that it offers a lot of great extra footage from the more outrageous episodes from the first two seasons. Finally this set allows you to really get back into the series’ storylines, and it introduces the main characters and their background stories.

Cons of This Two Season Northern Exposure Collection

While I think this is a great collection of DVDs there are some items that I wished that it had. First there are only eight episodes in season one and seven episodes in season two. Even by combining the two seasons together you are only getting fifteen episodes instead of the normal 22 episodes for a regular television series. I also wish that they offered more behind the scenes, bloopers, and bonus features on these discs. Other than wishing the discs had more materials to offer this is a great bargain set.

Where You Can Buy the Northern Exposure: Complete Season One and Two Collection

I always recommend shopping around and looking for special sales. This set was released within the last two years so it still may be available at local retail stores. If you can’t find it at a local retailer you can easily find it online at: Amazon.com for $29.99 including shipping, Walmart.com for $39.25 including shipping, or at ModernRock.com for $40.70.
