Holmes Twin Window Fan HAWF2021 Review

I recently started using a Holmes Twin Window Fan, model HAWF2021. So far, it has performed well and I have not experienced any problems with it. When using it in the evening after a hot afternoon, it cools down the room although the other rooms remain rather warm. Read on for more details about the Holmes Twin Window Fan’s features, design, and performance…

The HAWF2021 has a speed control (two speeds; high or low), a six foot built-in AC power cord, “water resistant” fan motors, and panels to help it fit many different windows. It comes with one built-in panel that can be adjusted and locked in place, as well as an optional removable panel for the other side. The window I put it in is not very wide, so the 2nd panel wasn’t necessary. The manual indicates that additional panels can be purchased and added on.

Installing the Holmes twin window fan was quite easy, and its cord reached the nearest outlet without any problem. The instructions are fairly detailed and include sections on storage, operation, cleaning, safety, and installation. The twin window fan has a speed/power control on both sides, so it can be manually reversed to blow air in a different direction; this means that it is also useful as an exhaust fan. I accidentally knocked it over once (not in the window), but nothing was damaged.

It is neither the loudest nor quietest fan I have used. Compared to my table and box fans, its “low” speed is noisier, but its “high” speed is no louder. The Holmes HAWF2021 is slightly quieter than my air conditioner’s fan-only setting; it also blows in colder air, perhaps because the airflow is more direct. Of course, it is quieter and uses far less energy than the regular AC setting. Unlike some window fans, it lacks a thermostat or automatic direction control, but costs less than those fans.

Overall, the Holmes HAWF2021 Twin Window Fan works effectively, is designed well, and offers easy installation, although it’s somewhat noisy. It is also rather inexpensive; the HAWF2021 can be purchased at Kmart and Wal-Mart for under $20 dollars, although some retailers charge as much as $55 for it. The fan comes with a limited one-year warranty (details are on the back of the instruction manual).

If there are any changes in the fan’s performance, I will post updates in the comments section below.
