Home Remodeling with a Contractor
The National Association of Home Builders is a great place to visit for those who are considering remodeling their home. Even if you have already started your remodeling project, you should still check them out.
Their site will inform you of how long it will take to completely add a new room onto your house. According to the National Association of Home Builders it will take several months to add a new room but only take a couple of weeks to remodel your bathroom or kitchen. This information is not meant to worry you but you do need to know how long a project is going to take before you get started. This will help you be able to plan out enough time for it. For this reason, you should meet with your contractor and plan out a schedule. Then make sure to get the correct building permits before you get started with construction.
Once the construction is underway you will want to meet with your contractor on a regular basis, either in person or by phone. This will help you to stay in control of your progress so that you can be sure that everything is proceeding according to the schedule that you have established.
During your meetings with your contractor you should also discuss anything that will need to be custom ordered. This will allow you to have the time that you will need in order to handle these custom orders yourself. Of course, you will also want to plan time for these items to be delivered. Remember! Something may be back-ordered, or custom items will need to be built. You will need to allot some time for this.
You will also want to set some “rules” for your workers. Some things that you may want to consider are:
1.Radio: Is it OK for the workers to have their radio while they are working? What type of music can they listen to? At what volume can they listen to their radio?
2.Parking: Is there somewhere special that you want them to park? Do you not want them to park in certain areas?
3.Facilities: Can they use your restroom? If so, then which one?
4.Communication: Are they allowed to use your telephone?
5.Personal Preferences: Are they allowed to smoke on your property? If so, where?
These are just some of the things that you will want to think about and discuss before the workers even come onto your property. This will keep any misunderstandings to a minimum by reducing any conflicts or arguments that could occur between the workers and you.
After you have all of this taken care of you may want to tell your neighbors about your construction plans. Simply inform them of the kind of remodeling that you have planned; how long you expect this to last; and the times when the construction workers will be on the job.
Getting all of this into place and keeping the lines of communication open with everyone will make your project go quicker and smoother.
