Homer Simpson Performs Macbeth at Chicago Theater
Actor Rick Miller will be performing a condensed version of Shakespeare’s Macbeth in perhaps its most original and unusual incarnation. Miller will perform as over 50 of the residents of Springfield, the fictional home of The Simpsons, in an even shorter version of Shakespeare’s shortest tragedy. Even so, at 55 minutes, it’s still longer than a Simpsons episode, even when you add in the 18 minutes of commercials. Naturally, Homer Simpson will be the Macbeth in this version, with Marge Simpson as Lady Macbeth, Ned Flanders as Banquo. Troy McClure, whom you might remember from many of his various other appearances on the Simpsons, appears in a variety of roles.
Miller’s hybrid of Shakespeare and Simpsons will be performed now through July 23 at Upstairs at Chicago Shakespeare, 800 E. Grand. Tickets cost $30.00.
