How FedEx Ruined My Honeymoon, Charged Me for Services They Didn’t Provide, and Provided the Worst Customer Service in History
When I called them, they were quite friendly on the phone. This is the last time I talked with somebody competent at FedEx. They quoted me a price of $160, the cheapest rate at which they will deliver same day packages. I thought this was quite high, but considering I would be out over $1500 if I didn’t make my flight, I went ahead and agreed.
They were supposed to pick up the passport from the passport agency, and deliver it to the airport nearby, where my husband would pick it up from as soon as it landed. We were quoted a time around 11PM, and so I sat and waited for my passport to get here. A little while later, my husband got home and told me that not only did it not arrive, but FedEx had no idea where it was. We called them around 1:30AM, asking if they heard any news. We were informed at that time that it had probably missed its connection in Dallas, and the next plane was not going out until tomorrow morning- too late for me to leave to get to Chicago, the airport I was leaving from. They also informed me that they were not held to their guarantee, BECAUSE THEY TOLD ME IT WOULD BE LATE. They were excusing themselves of all responsibility on the grounds that they told me after the fact that they messed up. And they told me that this meant I would still have to pay for the package delivery!!
Around two in the morning, we left for Chicago to get a new passport. We gave them a contact number and got in touch with them several more times throughout the day. Before we spent the extra money on a new passport, we called them and were quoted an arrival time of 4:30. My plane was to leave at 5:15. At that point, I had no choice but to get a new passport, as that was not enough time.
Because it took so long for them to process a new passport, I missed my flight. I found out later that the passport arrived not at 4:30, but at 3:30. This would have left enough time to get it and get on the flight, except that I was not informed of this. Luckily, a woman at the airlines let us fly the next day instead.
We went to pick up my passport, which was supposedly sitting at the airport waiting on us. We went to several different places in the airport, and none of the people who handled it could tell us where it was. We decided to worry about this after we got back. As soon as we got back from the trip, we got a call saying it was in Fort Wayne, Indiana- not even the same state!
In short, the price was high, they lost my package, they could not tell me where it was, they refused to honor their guarantee, they did not keep me informed once they found it, and then it got sent to a different facility than the one I needed it at. I am out over $500 because of their mistake, and after being told that they would call me back, I still haven’t received a call.
Do not ship with this company. I realize my story is the exception, but if it happened to me, it could happen to someone else. If you are paying that much money, there is no reason to have that many foul-ups related to one package. This company is not worth your time.
