-Wood Shims
-Grace Window Tape
–Roofing nails
Step 1 – Check R.O. (Rough Opening), Window Size, and Window Tape
Measure the opening in which you plan to set the window. An R.O. (Rough Opening) that is Ã?½ inch to Ã?¾ in bigger than the window is ideal. If placing more than one window, always make sure you’re placing each window in its correct opening. Place a strip of Grace Window tape along the bottom of the opening and prepare to lift in your window.
Step 2 – Set Window
Raise the window into the opening. Make sure no window flanges are out of place and continue.
Step 3 – Center Window in R.O. (Rough Opening)
Use something to pry the window into the center of your opening. Take care in doing so and use a tool that won’t damage any parts of the window.
Step 4 – Check Bottom of Window for Level
Hold a level across the bottom of the window on the outside and raise the bottom corners accordingly. Use shims to raise the appropriate corner into place. When you reach level, nail the bottom flange of the window.
Step 5 – Check Window for Square & Plumb
Measure the distance from the upper right corner to the lower left and vice-versa. The objective is to make these two numbers the same. Use shims, placed vertically next to the top left or right corners to rack the window slightly. After it’s square, it never hurts to double check your work by plumbing the sides with a level.
Step 6 – Nail off Flanges
After you’ve gotten your window level, square, and plumb, you can nail off all of the flanges.
Step 7 – Gaskets/Window Tape/Hardware
The last step is installing any gaskets or hardware that came with he window. Directions should be included. Use Grace Window Tape to tape over the three remaining sides and you’ve completed hanging a window.
