How to Clean Your Toilet and Keep it that Way
While you will find many different toilet tablets out on the market that claim to “keep your toilet clean,” I have found that these are simply a waste of money. The one thing that has always helped me to keep my toilet clean is the toilet brush. In order to keep your toilet looking tidy in between your weekly toilet cleanings you should keep a toilet brush nearby each toilet. If you or another family creates a mess, scrub it right away with the toilet brush rather than let it build up into one big disgusting toilet mess. This way everyone is helping to clean up after their own mess and you won’t be embarrassed by any stains sitting in your toilet when company arrives.
Another way to help keep your toilet tidy is to keep some disinfecting wipes handy on top of your toilet. You can perform a daily disinfecting of your toilet’s seat and handle to help keep germs at bay. If you create your own disinfecting solution you could use reusable wash cloths in place of the disposable wipes, saving money and landfill space.
Cleaning your toilet doesn’t have to be such a tough chore. To clean your toilet bowl you will first want to flush your toilet. Next sprinkle baking soda liberally onto the sides of your toilet bowl, the flushing creates a wet surface which makes it easier for the baking soda to stick to the sides of the bowl, and allow to sit for a few minutes. Next spray a solution of vinegar and water around the exterior parts of your toilet bowl and wipe clean with a sponge. Once the outside of your bowl is clean you can begin to scrub the inside of the bowl with your toilet brush. Once the toilet has received a good scrubbing flush the toilet and you are done.
To clean the tiny crevices of your toilet bowl, such as around the hinges of your toilet lid, you will want to use baking soda and a tooth brush. Soak the tooth brush with some water before scrubbing the crevices of your toilet to allow the baking soda to form a cleaning paste. Sprinkle the baking soda over the crevices and begin scrubbing with your tooth brush. The tiny bristles on a tooth brush make it easier to clean areas, such as the tiny crevices on your toilet, a job that an ordinary sponge could not handle.
Keeping your toilet clean is easy when you use the recommendations above. By maintaining the cleanliness of your toilet on a daily basis you make your weekly clean ups a snap. Maintaining toilet cleanliness daily takes up little time and saves you time as well. By using homemade cleaning solutions such as baking soda and vinegar you also eliminate chemical toilet bowl cleaners from your home which is healthy for both you and the environment.
