How to Cook Corn on the Cob
For hundreds of years, before stoves were invented, people would roast corn in open fires. This method of cooking corn on the cob is still practiced today. Other methods include boiling, grilling, steaming and microwaving. For the person seeking to learn how to cook corn on the cob, the following methods are very easy and require little prep time.
A.) Baked Corn on the cob….Preheat oven to 325….Peel back husks to end of cob, but do not remove. Remove Cornsilk from cob and husk. Soak corncobs in cold water for 15 minutes. Remove corncobs from water and drain. Place corncobs in roasting pan and add water to cover and 1 / 2 cup melted butter or margarine. Bake 45- 50 minutes in 325 oven. Remove husks from corn. serve with butter, salt and black pepper(optional).
B.) Boiled Corn on the cob….Husk ears of corn. Add to boiling water. Cover pan. Boil 6- 9 minutes. Serve with butter, salt and black pepper. Another method is to add ears of corn to a pot of cold water. Bring water to a full boil. When water boils, the corn should be done. **A variation on this is to boil the corn as described, then cover with melted butter and place directly on grill, until browned to desired preference.
C.) Grilled Fresh Corn on the cob….Do not husk corn. Place ears of corn in cold water and soak for 10- 15 minutes. Preheat grill or Barbecue to medium- heat. Place corn on grill. Cook 10- 12 minutes, turning ears several times. Serve with butter, salt and black pepper(optional).
D.) Foil- wrapped BBQ Corn on the cob….Husk ears of corn. soak ears of corn in cold water for 15 minutes. Drain briefly. Wrap corn in Aluminum Foil ( if desired, pour melted- butter over corn). Place corn on grill, or directly on charcoal, turning frequently for 40- 45 minutes. Season with salt, black pepper and butter.
E.) Microwave Corn on the cob….Soak husked corn for 10- 15 minutes. Drain briefly. Wrap Corn cob in paper towel and microwave on ‘high’ for 3- 4 minutes. Serve with butter, salt and black pepper.
