How to Deal with Mice in Your Home

How you ever heard scuffling or high-pitch squeaky sounds? Have you ever found wholes in your clothing or furniture? Have you spotted dark brown pellets around the floor or kitchen counter? From the corner of your eye have you seen something scuttling towards a corner? You may have mice.

If you don’t like dealing with mice you could go ahead and call your local exterminator and have to problem solved quickly but the purpose of this article is about how YOU deal with these creatures.

Cats
Some people believe that cats are the best way to get rid of mice. Their not. We had ten cats living outside of our house but still a family of mice was still able to enter our home and make it their home as well.

Most cats kill for fun rather than food. They play with their victim before making a kill. You might find the transformation from loving family pet to murderer disturbing. If your cat does try to eat its kill, you should stop it because the mouse may carry parasites and have ingested poisons that it would then pass on to your kitty.

And of course, there’s always a chance that your cat won’t be interested at all. Like the cats outside out house.

Ultrasonic Devices
Plug in ultrasonic devices to emit a high pitched sound, unbearable to all rodents. Cats and dogs aren’t bothered it, but don’t use one if you have a pet such as a hamster or a guinea pig.

It’s better to use a device that combines ultrasonic sound with electromagnetic interference that way it can protect your whole house because sound alone won’t be able to pass from room to room.

Poisons
Always check your poison’s instructions for specific safety tips.

It isn’t a good idea to use trays because pets might think of it as food, instead use those bait stations. These are enclosed so only a mouse would be able to go in and eat the poison and this prevents the poison from spilling and being accidentally consumed by pets.

Dying mice may come out from their hiding places and die in front of you. You may find it very disturbing. Or they will die in their hiding places, rot, and stink out your home.

Traps
You could electrocute a mouse by using one of those electric traps or use the traditional mouse trap. Instead of using cheese use something like chocolate or peanut butter since those foods are known to be the favorite of mice.

The kind we use to get rid of the mice in our home were those sticky traps. We place stick paper outside the mouse whole which just so happen to be under my bed and we annihilated them.

For those who don’t want to kill mice.
There are a lot of traps out there that just cage the mice with out harming it. Don’t release the mouse in your backyard, it will be back before you know it. Take it somewhere far away, where it can be happy, and you can too.
