How to Declutter a Small Bathroom

Bathrooms see a lot of people traffic each day and can easily become cluttered with piles of dirty clothes, empty tubes of toothpaste and several bottles of shampoo. If you are wallowing in clutter, what can you do to declutter a small bathroom?

Clean the Bathroom

The best place to begin when you need to declutter a small bathroom is by giving it a thorough clean. Remove every item that you have in the bathroom before giving it a thorough clean from top to bottom. Once you have an empty room to work with, you will be able to assess the pile of items you have removed from the room before taking things a step further.

My downstairs bathroom is very small and compact, which means I cannot afford to allow clutter to take over. Whenever I see items starting to pile up, I know that I will be able to quickly overcome the problem by cleaning the room and taking charge of what I have stored in there.

Throw Out Empty Containers

Clutter can easily accumulate, especially if you have a habit of hoarding empty containers or bottles of shampoo or body lotion. Check each bottle and if it is empty, assign it to the recycle or refuse pile to be disposed of.

When you are finished, rearrange items back in the bathroom. Without the extra space taken up by empty containers, you will have a lot more room to display items and keep the bathroom looking neat and tidy.

Store Multiple Items

Do you really need to store seven bottles of shaving gel and five bottles of perfume in the bathroom? When space is limited, it is time to purge or to find alternative locations to store multiple items. Make it a habit to keep the bare minimum in the bathroom and to store the rest in the medicine cabinet, hallway cupboards or even under the stairs until you need them.

A decluttered bathroom is not only more pleasing to the eye; it is also easier to keep clean and tidy. Next time you see clutter starting to take over your bathroom, remember that you can take back control with a few simple steps.
