How to Get Great Service Wherever You Go

Did you ever notice some people always manage to get a deal on just about anything? Do they always get the best tables and the best treatment? These are happy consumers who rarely have a complaint. How is this possible?

It’s not always about having money. People with money often get the best of everything everywhere they go but that’s doesn’t mean you can’t get this same treatment yourself. The trick is in your attitude. Knowing what to do and where to do it makes all the difference.

Kindness

Kindness is something you should always use when dealing with anyone. I don’t mean fake pleasantries; I mean genuine kindness towards others. Smile at everyone and mean it. Sometimes it’s hard when you are in a grumpy mood or don’t seem to be getting what you want but do it anyway. A genuine smile is always full of power.

When it comes to your hairdresser, your banker or the teenager bagging your groceries you should always know their name and show them the same respect you would want in their position. If they feel respected by you they are more likely to help you out. You may be surprised what they may be able to offer you or what they will go out of their way to do for you.

Complaints

If something is wrong you should bring it to someone’s attention immediately. The trick however is to do so nicely. If the bed is lumpy in your hotel room ask for another room. If you do so nicely you may get an upgrade. If you go to the desk ranting and raving you may get a new room but it will most likely not be the honeymoon suite.

Make sure you are complaining to the right person. Ask whom you should speak to about your broken lamp. You’ll get nowhere by talking to the wrong person. Save your breath until someone leads you to the correct person and then have your say. Remember to remain calm and friendly.

If the correct person doesn’t help you then you should go above their heads. Most companies or corporations will want to make things right with a customer. If you go home frustrated and just shrug and say, “I tried” you have gotten nowhere.

Clubs and Programs

Do you have credit cards or belong to AAA? Do you know there are benefits to these groups that many don’t utilize? Call the customer service number on your card or account and find out if membership gets you any extras. This may be discounts on hotels, airfare or merchandise.

Many hotels have programs for their guests. They may be free or have a small membership fee. You can often use these to upgrade your room at no cost. It may also afford you a free meal while staying at the hotel or any other number of freebies.

Your Money

No matter how much or how little money you may have you should make sure the people handling it have your best interests at heart. Don’t be afraid to speak up and be proactive about your accounts and investments. If you have concerns voice them and if you need to call your investor weekly, do so. Don’t just trust they will do the best for you without your input.

See your banker on a yearly basis to discuss your interest rates. You would be surprised how many people don’t do this. The more money you have in your accounts the higher an interest rate you should be earning. The same goes with your mortgage and credit card interest rates. If your account is in good standing you should call once a year to see if you qualify for a better interest rate. To get the best deal you may have to ask for the best deal.

Sincerity and Honesty

Be sincere about your complaints. Never try to get away with something because you will be remembered for it. Don’t try to say the cookie jar you purchased was broken when you opened the box when in reality you accidentally pushed it off the kitchen counter.

Honesty is always the best policy but don’t forget that doesn’t only apply to when you have a complaint. Be polite and give praise where it is due. If your hairdresser gives you the best cut you’ve ever had be sure to let them know. If your waitress is great tip her well and say thank you. She’ll remember you when you come back.

Take Your Business Elsewhere

If you have exhausted all avenues and you are still not happy with your service let the company know you will be going elsewhere and then do it! Many threaten to leave but only end up coming back for more bad service. There are some companies that just don’t care about service because they have such a large customer base they think you are easily replaced.

Don’t allow that to keep you returning. Shop somewhere else even if you have to spend a little more money to do so. You will get more satisfaction from great service and a pleasant experience than you will from saving two dollars on a toaster. If everyone would leave places of bad service then maybe these places would think twice about their policies.

Wrap Up

The secrets aren’t really secrets but they are often overlooked. A kind smile and knowing when to complain and when to move on will help you get a grasp on where you should be spending your money and how to make the most of it. If your kindness and good intentions are not returned don’t be afraid to go where it is. Getting great service is up to you.
