How to Get on TLC’s What Not to Wear

TLC’s What Not To Wear is a huge hit with anyone who ever tunes into the cable channel TLC. Host Stacy London and Clinton Kelly complete head to toe makeovers on anyone who can figure out how to get on What Not To Wear. Guests on the show receive $5000 to spend on a new wardrobe. In addition to that hefty sum participants also get free style lessons and a hair and makeup redo.

To answer the question of how to get on TLC’s What Not To Wear, go to their website at http://tlc.discovery.com/

. Click on “Meet the Stylists” and then click on “Get on the Show.” At this point they are going to ask you if you fit into any the categories that they are doing specials on at the time. I don’t know this for sure, but I think if you could narrow your category down a little you might stand a better chance of standing out from the masses of people applying. Drawing some attention to yourself might raise you chances of being chosen.

Categories can include specials like pregnant women, people with terrible work uniforms, and even families that dress terribly as a group. TLC’s What Not to Wear producers are always asking in general for people that are fashion challenged; so don’t feel like you have to fit into one of their specific categories. Who knows, your story may be so unique that you are a hit with the producers. So, be yourself and you’ll always be unique.

Once you have determined which category you fit into you will need to click on the application process. This will take you off of the What Not to Wear website. Be prepared to answer a lengthy application. Questions will vary for each of the different categories of applicants. You will be asked important questions like age, where you work, why you are nominating yourself, why you are nominating someone else, and what you think your current style is. They also ask for two friends and their information, so be prepared with two close friend’s contact information. Check ahead and make sure your friends are willing!

Now that you know how to get on TLC’s What Not To Wear, there are few important details I noticed in the fine print. First of all it says contestants must pay all taxes on prizes that they win. If you are selected make sure you clarify what this means, because it seems to read that you will be paying taxes on those $5000 worth of clothes plus any salon treatments. Specifically their disclaimer says, “Applicant agrees to pay all federal, state, and local taxes, including income, use or sales taxes or any other governmental charges imposed on prizes, including the value of any goods or services received and cash gifts, if any, given to me or received by me by reason of my participation in the program and I release and indemnify producer from any liability therefore. I also authorize producer to deduct or withhold any such taxes or charges that require a payment prior to delivery of said prizes, cash or gifts.”

If this doesn’t help you get on TLC’s What Not to Wear, they do have a special part of each show where viewers email their photos in with any fashion questions they may have. This may be an easier way to get on the show without all the taxes and disclaimers.
