How to Give Your Front Porch a New Look
So you have finally purchased your new home and just moved in. Now that spring has arrived the front porch has really become an eye sore. Freshening up your front porch can really make your new home feel like yours. Below you will find some step by step ideas which may prove to be helpful. The best part of the tips is that they are affordable options which are perfect for any budget.
1. Give the floors a new look
Always start with the floors of your porch. Since this is a new home you will first want to inspect it to make sure that there are no cracks, or missing pieces on your front porch. If you find any spaces like this you will need to replace them before doing anything else. After you have made sure that your porch floor is sturdy and secure you can move onto cleaning or sanding it. When this is complete you are all ready to paint it and give it a new fresh look.
2. Make a nice seating area
Every nice front porch needs a good seating area. If you have old furniture you may be able to give it a nice face lift, and use it for the front porch. If you don’t have any furniture for the porch, than it’s time to hit the thrift store. Your local thrift store may have some old outdoor furniture that would be perfect for your front porch at a reasonable price. After adding the seating area you will want to make sure you add some color to the seating. Most porch seating has cushions, and you can add some nice pillows to make it look even more cozy.
3. Re-use old items for an end table
The great thing about having a garage, attic, or basement full of old stuff is that you may be able to re-use it. If you have a very large old flower pot you may be able to turn this into a nice table, just by turning it upside down. Or perhaps you have some old end tables that you can make into outdoor tables. A fresh coat of paint usually does wonders.
4. Add color with hanging plants
Every front porch needs a splash of color, to really make it look great. You can easily place some hanging plants on the porch. Try some really big ones like ferns which can really give a front porch a nice look. You can also change the flowers to match the season. It keeps your porch looking fresh and new.
5. Re-do the front door
Your front door is usually a big part of your front porch. If the door looks like it is in shambles it can really bring down the look of your front porch. To make it look better and match the rest of the porch, you can sand down the front door and paint it. Make sure that the color matches the rest of the house or it can end up looking like an eye sore instead of a nice blend of the porch colors.
