How to Help Your Teenager Start Their Own Singing Group

Nowadays it seems like more and more teens are looking to become stars, especially in the field of music. But how can you help your teenager start their own singing group. Well obviously after seeing some of the success stories of some celebrities like Destiny’s Child it is no wonder that your teen now wants to do the same.

It is a proven fact that the earlier they start the better chance they have of strengthening their voices and possibly making it to the time. But as a parent what can you do to help your child form their own singing group? And how can you prepare them for the dangers of the music industry and even for some disappointment.

The first thing that your teen needs to do is decide who they want in their singing group. Obviously it should be singers with talent equal to that of your teen. You do not want a singer who has too strong of a voice. This is because they would obviously dominate the group. This would eventually cause a lot of problems within the group. If everyone is equal and on the same page their will be less to worry about later.

As a parent you will not want to put too much into the group, but you will definitely need to set some guidelines that they will have to follow. For example the types of songs that they sing should not be anything to raunchy or vulgar. If they want to be a group then you should let them know that they will need to be dignified in their music and in their appearance. It would also be a good idea to allow them to practice at your home. This way you will know where they are, and possibly offer some constructive criticism on how a particular dance or song looks.

If you are into designing or making clothes you could take on the role of group designer such as Tina Knowles did with Destiny Child. Or if you have another special talent that may be of benefit to their group why not offer these services to them. Don’t be offended if at first they do not want anything from you. Just reassure them that you will be willing to help them if it is needed. You could even possibly take on the role of manager.

This will give you the opportunity to decide when they are ready to start performing in public and who they perform for. You should of course reassure them that you will not take control of the group, but just help them to succeed when they are out in the public. Another final tip is to prepare them for disappointment. Some teens tend to have the illusions that they will instantly be a great group and once they are in the public eye they will succeed.

Help them to realize that even for the best singers it takes years of trying before you may get the opportunity to audition for a record contract. That’s right make them well aware that they will not just be given a contract they will have to earn it. They will need to prove to the record label why they should invest money in them. Also they will need something that makes them stand out from all of the other groups out there. The bottom line is if they just be themselves and use the talent they have to the fullest extent possible they may just have a chance to make it.
