How to Install a Dryer Vent

This How To project is for installing a dryer vent in the basement. This particular installation is for a dryer that is not located near an outside wall and requires duct work.

If your dryer is located against an outside wall you can purchase flexible ducting to connect the dryer to the outside vent. The installation of the vent will be the same.

Material and Tools:
Power Drill
4 Ã?¼” hole saw
Measuring Tape
Silicone Caulking
Caulking Gun
Screwdriver
Vent Duck
Duck Elbows
Dryer Vent
Hanger Straps
Foil Tape
Wood Screws

Step1:
Locate a spot outside your house that’s most suitable for a dryer vent. Check that same spot from inside your basement to get an idea where you are going to drill the hole for the vent. Make sure there will be nothing in the way for your duct work.

Step2:
Measure how much duct you will need from the dryer to the vent and how many turns you will have to make.

Step3:
With the 4 ¼ hole saw, drill the hole from outside your house.

Step4:
Place a bead of silicone caulking around the opening and then mount the vent securing it with wood screws. Place another bead of caulking around the vent.

Step5:
Install all your duct work starting at the vent and working your way to the dryer. Use hanging straps to hang the duct from the floor joist. Use 90 degree elbows where necessary to make your turns. Place foil tape around each join.

Step6:
Connect the duct to the dryer.
