How to Install a Pool Cover?

Difficulty: Easy
Cost: $16000
Time: 2 days to two people
Equipment: angle grinder, jig saw, hacksaw, drill, screwdriver, spanner and Allen key male bubble level, riveter, straps.

A motorized cover has several advantages. It ensures the safety of children and saves processing products by limiting the pollution of the water (leaves, dust …). In addition, it extends the swimming season by maintaining a water temperature higher.

Priority to safety

Meet the safety standard NF P90-308, required for swimming pools in ground vent damper installed here consists of a stainless steel frame that supports a winding axis electrically operated (mains or solar panels). All based on turntables simply laid on beaches weights ensure it’s anchoring to the ground.

The submerged part of the cover (winding shaft) is separated from the space by a bathing chamber consisting of PVC panels. Areas not covered, such as a part of the staircase on this project must have an approved protective system.

Step 1: Suitable for free form

Cut demand, the blades of the shutter, PVC foam, adapt to the basins from 4m x 8 m, including free-form. Unlike conventional models, they require no tip for float stuck and make watertight unsinkable, they are resistant to impact and hail. In addition, they can be adjusted on site, using a fine tooth saw. One constraint: a depth of 1.50 m is required at the base of the wall where the system is implemented. Finally, the installation of this type of motorized damper requires no work on the structure of the pelvis or the existing track.

Step 2: Fixing plates

Fasten the plates on each side of the pool, outside curbs.

Step 3: Ask and center beams and plates

The two beams laid parallel on the platens are maintained with stirrups, centered in the width of all turntables / beams. Later, cheeks metal will take place under these beams

Step 4: Block calipers

Make adjustments (lateral and longitudinal) with threaded rods at the ends of the plates, with the aid of a spirit level. Lock in the clamps.

Step 5: Protect tile and liner

Because of their weight (about 30 kg each), the cheeks are difficult to handle. To prevent damage, protect tile and liner with a thick felt.

Step 6: Adjust the height of the cheeks

Suspend cheeks joists using threaded rods and stainless steel connecting flanges. The stems can adjust the height of the cheeks.

Step 7: Install the submerged structure

Adjust the cheeks under the edges, against the walls of the pool and start to install the rest of the submerged structure.

Step 8: Adjust the threaded rods

Check the spirit level plumb cheeks and adjust the height of threaded rods with nuts down.

Step 9: Meet the cheeks

The cheeks are connected by a first cross member that participates in the box structure. They are equipped with bolts for securing the ends of the horizontal tube.

Step 10: Strap beams

Slide two straps around the beams: they must bear the winding axis during its attachment to the cheeks.

Step 11: Insert and secure the pivot

Insert the pin in the shaft and secure with four stainless steel screws with an Allen wrench. The other end of the shaft (motor side) is pre wired for power supply.

Step 12: Attach the side opposite the motor patina

Side opposite the motor, position of the patina axis fixing cheek pre drilled and bolt.

Step 13: Screw the housing on the cheek

Motor side, pass the cable through the cable gland of the cheek, then snap and screw the housing on the cheek. It has a key that releases the winding axis in case of power failure. Connect the cable.

Step 14: The electrical connection

It can be done before or after impoundment. The electrical box is delivered per-assembled, by connecting the cable to the electric motor, via a junction box.

Differential protection 30 mA (not supplied) must imperatively be installed at the head of the line. This can be done by an electrician. A solar kit (optional) can replace the power supply from the public network.

Step 15: Assemble the box

Adjusting the mounting block (adjustable from a few centimeters), and check the parallelism of the winding shaft with the walls of the basin (supporting wall and bottom) with a meter. Tighten the bolts.

Step 16: Clamping the ends of the sleepers

Present the box sleepers (high and two intermediate) between the flanges. After placing all the sleepers (two in the oblique portion and two in the vertical portion of the cheeks) clamp their ends by of bolts.

Step 17: Place stiffeners

Place inclined stiffeners on metal sleepers.

Step 18: Insert the PVC panels

Insert PVC panels in the grooves of the box, starting with one of the ends. Adjust spacing and attach them to the silicone adhesive.

Step 19: Install stiffeners and panels

Install stiffeners on the cross high and intermediate.
Ask panels in the same way as before (eight in total). The role of the unit is to separate the swimming area of the technical part of the cover.

Step 20: Cut off excess threaded rods

After checking one last time against nuts and nuts, cut the excess part of the threaded rods with a grinder with a metal disc (or a hacksaw).

Step 21: Riveted straps hanging

Riveting the clamp straps for attachment to the first panel of blades (through a dedicated notch and the winding shaft).

Step 22: Immerse the first panel

Screw the crash barrier (the cover will pass between the smooth and the casing). Subsequently immersing the first panel of blades and tie the elastic straps on the beams and a cross around. They hold the panel resting around the winding shaft.

Step 23: Assemble the panels

Assemble panels blades (wet them before) by sliding (singing male and female). Blades for freeform pools are numbered.

Step 24: Block ends

To remove any lateral movement which could degrade the liner or the blades block with a screw at each end joints of the panels (on the underside for aesthetic reasons).

Step 25: Adjust the depth of the counterweight

Disposed between the counterweight and the winding axis of the pool wall, adjust their depth so that they do not rely on the wrapping box.

Step 26: Attach the straps

Attach the straps supporting the counterweight around the front beam. Counterweights keep the flap tightly against the shaft during winding.

Step 27: Wrap the part

Wrap the part to As. Place remaining signs of blades (stairs). The last plate is pierced for the passage of the safety belt.

Step 28: Programming the self-locking

Place entirely before the shutter, set the automatic locking system for racing winding and unwinding (see instructions). Note that the standard requires operating the shutter manually with a key inserted into the control box.

Step 29: Device locked

Gratings are immobilized on the joists with approved safety stirrups.
The locking device includes anchor pegs seals on the beach (20 cm min. of the water), both holding the safety straps attached to the last slide of the cover.

Step 30: Secure throughout the basin

On this project, part of the stairs to the pool can be covered by the flap. To comply with safety standards, the area is protected (before impoundment) by a wooden grating, placed on a frame of stainless steel.
